    When you’re new to an organization, you often feel like you’re learning a foreign language, whether it’s the acronyms or the culture. I’m dating myself a bit here, but when I moved between companies in my early career, I was advised to create index cards like I was studying a new language. Each card would have an acronym or term on the front with the meaning on the back. (Nowadays, notes on your phone obviously work too). By documenting all these terms, I could pick up the language right away when people started speaking without having to ask what they were talking about fourteen times. This made the process of adapting a lot smoother and easier, all from a habit that took no more than a few minutes a day.
