Here’s why: The job market is brutal right now, and being a creator makes you stand out. ✅ You become visible. Hiring managers, recruiters, and industry peers are watching - even when you don’t realize it. A résumé can only do so much. Posting on LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube puts you in front of the right people before you ever hit “apply.” ✅ It becomes your portfolio. Your content showcases your skills in real time. Writing, marketing, storytelling, design - whatever you do, creating proves it better than any bullet point on a résumé ever could. ✅ You open new doors. Some of the biggest creators today started because they had free time after a layoff. Some never went back to a 9-to-5. Maybe this is your pivot. Maybe it’s a side hustle. Maybe it just leads to a better job. You won’t know unless you start. ✅ If you’re a performer, this is your stage. Actors, singers, writers, comedians, and any creative - social media gives you an audience bigger than any casting call or short film contest ever could. If you’re waiting for someone to “discover” you, maybe it’s time to start showing them what they’re missing. I tell people this all the time: You have the power to get your content out in the universe now and you could get millions of views by doing it. I know this works because I’ve seen it firsthand. By posting consistently, I’ve gained 16,000 followers in under a year. People now reach out to me about jobs, sometimes before they’re even posted. And when I apply for something in the future, my work is already recognized. That matters. Because if I’m ever competing for a role, I don’t want to be just another résumé in the pile. I want them to know my name when they pick it up. At some point, you run out of jobs to apply for. You’ve sent all the résumés you can. But when you create, you build something of your own. Most people wait until they need a job to start networking, building their brand, or putting themselves out there. That’s too late. Start now. Build your presence before you need it. Future you will thank you.
