    I've previously posted about leaders conducting RACI exercises to help them understand where they should be focusing their time and effort.   As a reminder, a RACI exercise entails leaders listing out the following: Responsibilities (Tasks they do themselves) Accountabilities (Tasks they make sure are done) Consulted (Tasks they provide useful information about which helps the tasks get done) Informed (Tasks they're merely kept in the loop about)    Going one step forward, if your organization doesn’t have a RACI chart outlining its key people and their roles, I’d highly recommend creating one.   Too often, leaders of organizations of all types, including law firms, get in the way of the people working underneath them.    Sometimes, that's by interfering with their colleagues' day-to-day work that they shouldn't be going anywhere near.    Other times, it's by dragging their feet on making decisions so their colleagues can move forward with what they're working on.   When leaders conduct a RACI exercise and produce a chart that spells out how their tasks fall out on the RACI spectrum, they gain clarity.   They learn where and how they can be most valuable to their organizations and colleagues.   They learn where and when to contribute, and where and when to stay out of the way.   That said, a RACI chart is a flexible document. It’s not meant to box people into rigid roles or responsibilities.    Instead, it’s a framework to foster collaboration.    At Pond Lehocky Giordano Inc., and I assume at many law firms across the U.S. and world, our culture is such that as team members, we support each other, go above and beyond when needed, and work together toward a common goal.    As managing partner, I realize I must focus on my duty to ensure the firm is running smoothly and delivering value to our clients by getting them the medical care they need and the benefits they're legally entitled to.   RACI charts also help leaders avoid complacency or thinking that their organizations are on "autopilot"—a term I truly dislike.    That's because a RACI chart will make it clear where leaders are getting stuck in the day-to-day grind, which keeps their organizations treading water, instead of where they should devote their time and efforts to bigger picture tasks that support their organizations' growth and evolution.   Complacency leads to trouble. Constant vigilance is required, not just to maintain an organization's competitive position but to improve and continuously deliver better value to its clients and customers.   A RACI exercise and chart can put an organization's leaders in position to do that.

    Confusion over “who owns what” stalls more launches than weak messaging. The fix? PMM owns the inputs. Enablement owns the delivery. Sales owns the execution. Why this RACI works: • Clear ownership cuts hand-offs in half and surfaces gaps before go-live. • Reps spend less time hunting for decks and more time using them. • PMMs get to focus on strategy instead of last-minute rescue missions. A simple test: pick one upcoming initiative and write each task on a sticky note. If any sticky can’t be tied to a single owner in under 10 seconds, the RACI isn’t settled yet.     🫧🫧 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘀: 𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗜 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘅 Ever kicked off a project where no one was quite sure who owned what? Yeah… we’ve been there. In a recent cross-functional project, the requirements phase stalled.  Not because we lacked ideas. But because we hadn’t mapped out who brought which expertise to the table. Which stakeholder owned volume tax?  Who could speak for audit, compliance, or process architecture? We realized we were asking the same few people everything.  And missing the real knowledge holders. Before we could make progress, we needed clarity:  👉 Who’s the go-to person for each area? 👉 Who gives the final approval? That’s when we introduced a simple but powerful framework:  The RACI Matrix. It stands for: - 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲: doing the work - 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: owning the outcome - 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗱: offering input - 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱: staying in the loop Instead of mapping roles to tasks, we mapped them to areas of expertise. That small shift helped us see where each person’s expertise was. And ensured we were reaching out to the right people at the right time. Once we aligned:  ✅ Bottlenecks eased ✅ Expectations sharpened ✅ Collaboration got better This matrix didn’t just streamline communication. It empowered each team member to own their part with confidence. Sometimes, it's the simplest frameworks that create the biggest impact.
