Regional Retail Strategy Success in retail requires more than a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s about meeting shoppers where they are—literally. Tailoring retail displays to regional preferences is a proven way for brands to drive deeper connections and stronger sales. Let’s break it down: 🌟 Targeting Local Preferences Regional displays allow brands to cater directly to local consumer tastes. Take marketing BBQ sauces leading up to the Texas Bowl—brands that embrace these nuances position themselves to win on the shelf. 🌟 Fast Turnaround Through Smart Solutions By leveraging existing assets and digital print technology, brands can adapt and produce regionally customized display programs faster than ever. With digital printing, there’s no need for tooling, making regional rollouts quick and cost-effective. 🌟 Driving Local Shopper Engagement In-store signage and displays showcasing “Locally Loved” or region-specific product shoutouts resonate with shoppers. Paired with strategic placement near high-traffic areas, this approach strengthens brand presence and reinforces that connection. Brands investing in localized retail strategies don’t just improve sales—they build relationships that last. Leveraging insights like shopper behaviors, regional events, and cultural trends ensures your product speaks to local shoppers on a personal level. One of the key insights I teach in our Crew Strategy School is the importance of a “focused regional strategy”. You would be surprised at how many brands and companies get this wrong. 75% of Food & Beverage brands in the US are in the Emerging and Growth stage. This means they have less than $10M in topline revenue and are typically spending $500K or less in marketing. At this stage, there is not a lot of room for error. A brand has to gain Household Penetration (consumers have to buy it at least once) and demonstrate velocity on shelf (more consumers are buying and repeating their purchase). Proving the business case and ensuring strong margins by region is the best avenue to do this. Here’s some other key benefits of a Focused Regional Strategy. 🏪 Enables Retailer Focus for Sales, Brokers and Distributor Partners. Every region has specific retailers and distribution partners. Proving results, working out logistics, and maintaining focus enables better execution. This executional learning will be key as you prepare to expand. 🚚 Proximity to Production to reduce Freight. Staying focused in a region reduces freight costs that can help your margin in the early stages of growth.   💡 Provides Access to Actionable Data. For example, NielsenIQ will have specific regional POS data for categories that is less expensive and more detailed for your situation enabling better decision making. 👫 Helps provide Consumer Concentration and more efficient marketing spend. Regional strategies enables you to have a “local” benefit early on, it focuses dollars enabling more frequency of communication and better connection with consumers that builds on itself. 💰 Ability to build a positive sales story that can be used to expand to new regions. If you can’t win in your backyard, you’re not going to win anywhere else. Build a strong business case of growth and profitability and then use that case study and approach when you expand into new regions. 💸 Reduces risk and financial exposure to the organization. It’s easy to spend money quickly trying to chase growth but it’s foolish. In the early stages of a brand you are going to learn, tweak, and change activities often as you figure out what works for your audience and category. Smaller spends, that are smarter, provide the organization with less risk and helps cash flow. I hope this helps as you grow and execute.
