I'm removing the term "personalization" from my vocabulary. People don't want personalization... they want contextual, relevant experiences. Example: John, Dir. Demand Gen at ACME, an enterprise cybersecurity company, downloads an asset from our website on ABM. Personalization looks like us following up with an email "Hi John, as a Director of Demand Generation at ACME you probably face challenges scaling your ABM program...[general value prop]...[CTA to book a meeting]" Contextualization looks like us using CRM data to see that he's also attended a webinar on verticalizing content with AI and downloaded an asset on automating post-webinar workflows. Plus Sally from his company recently requested a demo. The email follow up would look like: "Hi John, hope you found the ABM guide insightful! I know demand gen is responsible for a ton of things beyond ABM like events and webinars and given your horizontal product, creating industry specific content could definitely move the needle (saw you recently added a new healthcare-specific product!). Here's a cool story of how another cyber company scaled and automated a lot of their demand gen motion with AI. Also saw Sally from your team recently requested a demo of Tofu so let us know if I can send any additional info your way." The above email might take a human 30+ mins minimum to look at CRM data, do some research on the person and their account, write a super thoughtful 1:1 email. That won't scale. AI makes automating contextual experiences now possible. Early days but forward-thinking teams are doing this and it's dramatically increasing campaign and funnel performance. Here’s an efficient way to use AI when sending cold emails: Start by creating a generic cold email script, then ask AI to optimize it for your target industry using their specific terminology and pain points. I tested this with restaurant owners. My original script said "We can generate you 50 leads per month with a restaurant marketing system." I fed this to AI and asked it to make the language more specific to restaurants. It provided me with industry-specific language.. The AI automatically replaced "leads" with "covers," added industry-specific pain points like "third-party delivery fees" and "slow shifts," and used phrases like "walk-ins and repeat customers" that restaurant owners actually say. I then asked AI to explain each term to validate it was real industry language, not made-up jargon. "Covers" means the number of customers served. "Slow shifts" refers to off-peak hours when restaurants struggle with low customer volume. All legitimate restaurant terminology. And this works for any industry. Manufacturing, construction, healthcare, retail. You'll sound like you've worked in their space for years rather than another generic cold emailer.
