Pros & Cons of Using AI for Strategic What-If Scenario Planning While AI assistants like ChatGPT are still largely unexplored for marketing strategy development, forward-thinking marketers should start using their capabilities in this space. Recently, I used ChatGPT to help with strategic planning and provided it with (redacted and generalized) data from the previous year, including budget allocation across tactics for different segments (SMB, mid-market, and enterprise), performance goals, as well as campaign and incremental revenue results. ChatGPT offered solid qualitative responses to my "what-if" scenario inquiries, such as: ► What would be the impact of shifting 10% of our advertising budget to ABM (Account-Based Marketing) in the enterprise segment? ► How might we adjust our marketing strategy across all tactics to maintain ROI during a market downturn affecting SMBs? ► With a flat budget and a 20% cut in advertising spend (reallocated to digital and partnerships), what are the potential impacts and considerations? ► What's the recommended marketing mix for the following year to meet ROI and hurdle rate goals in each segment? However, ChatGPT struggled with providing precise numerical outputs for reallocated budget mixes that met financial goals within a flat spend. Despite multiple attempts, the numbers didn't add up, reflecting the current limitation of language models in handling complex mathematical computations. See conversation screenshots in the carousel below. While AI assistants excel at pattern recognition, understanding mathematical concepts remains a challenge. They may know that 2 + 2 = 4 from exposure to that pattern, but lack the knowledge of addition as a concept. This doesn't mean you can't use AI for strategic scenario planning. In fact, these tools can be great thought partners for qualitative "what-if" analyses. Just don't expect precise mathematical outputs, especially complex ones, from them yet. As AI capabilities rapidly evolve, these limitations will likely improve. But for now, it's important to understand their strengths and weaknesses for this type of use case. Summary
Understanding ChatGPT's role in AI tools reveals how this advanced language model is transforming industries by enhancing productivity, fostering creativity, and serving as a decision-making assistant. It acts as a conversational AI tool designed to analyze data, generate content, and assist in problem-solving, though with limitations in complex computations and absolute accuracy.
- Use ChatGPT for brainstorming: Engage ChatGPT in creative exercises like generating ideas, exploring "what-if" scenarios, or role-playing tough conversations to refine your strategies and approaches.
- Augment workflows securely: Take advantage of enterprise-grade features like data security and customized integrations to streamline tasks, collaborate effectively, and drive innovation in your organization.
- Combine with human oversight: Use ChatGPT as a supportive tool for tasks such as analyzing data or summarizing complex information, but always validate outputs to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Fascinating analysis on ChatGPT usage trends from Rand Fishkin. His data reveals visits to OpenAI.com have declined 29% since May. By partnering with Datos to analyze usage across millions of devices, the study found the decline holds true even for frequent users. This counters the theory that only casual users are dropping off. Analyzing thousands of actual ChatGPT prompts showed programming assistance is the top use case at 29% of sessions. Education accounted for only 10%, despite assumptions students drive growth. Other leading categories include creative content production, personal knowledge, sales/marketing aid, and entertainment. The top verbs were "write," "create," and "list," while surprising words like "SEO," "SaaS," and "DnD" appeared regularly. The takeaway is that while skyrocketing growth may be stalling as novelty-seekers drop off, ChatGPT has carved out roles helping programmers, creators, marketers, and hobbyists. Usage remains far above 2021 levels, but the hockey stick trajectory may not continue. Fascinating data-driven analysis on the real trends in ChatGPT adoption and use cases from Rand Fishkin and team. Worth a read for the insights!👇 https://lnkd.in/dUNUB3y7

I was interviewed by Martine Paris for this article in Entrepreneur Media - it’s the small businesses making the greatest strides in generative AI, driven by sheer necessity. An excerpt: https://lnkd.in/dQad-5W7 Most people think of ChatGPT as a tool for external communications: It writes some marketing copy, you refine its work, and then you share that with your customers. But ChatGPT can also help you refine ideas internally, says Conor Grennan, head of generative AI and dean of students at NYU Stern School of Business — especially if you engage it in role play. "Ask ChatGPT to be a difficult customer who pushes back on every pitch," he says. "It's a great way for your sales teams to learn how to have hard conversations. You can then ask how you could have been more persuasive." Or tell the bot about your product and prompt it to create different pitches to radically different kinds of clients, and ask who else you might try to sell to. Another helpful exercise: After telling ChatGPT about your product, target audience, and sales strategy, ask it to act like a "consultant" to poke holes in that plan. After it answers, have it switch roles and create solutions for all the problems it just brought up. Next, ask it to poke holes in those solutions. As you keep going, says Grennan, ChatGPT will hone its responses until you're able to get at the heart of the issue and the best solutions for it.

More doctors use ChatGPT to help with busy workloads, but is AI a reliable assistant? In a groundbreaking piece by Melissa Rudy for Fox News, the spotlight turns to physicians' increasing reliance on artificial intelligence, particularly ChatGPT, to manage their demanding schedules. Amidst the digital age, where a staggering million new medical articles are published annually, AI's role in healthcare is becoming more pronounced. Dan Parente of the University of Kansas Medical Center spearheaded research that delves into ChatGPT's ability to swiftly sift through vast amounts of medical literature, potentially guiding clinicians to the most pertinent articles. The study, published in the Annals of Family Medicine, revealed that AI-generated responses were 70% shorter yet remarkably high in accuracy (92.5%) and quality (90%), with minimal bias detected. However, the journey of AI in healthcare has its challenges. The study highlighted instances of "hallucinations" — AI fabricating information — albeit rarely. This underscores the crucial balance between leveraging AI for efficiency and remaining vigilant about accuracy. I, Dr. Harvey Castro, am an advocate for AI's potential in healthcare. I believe in AI's transformative power in enhancing clinical decision-making. Yet, the presence of inaccuracies, no matter how minimal, raises valid concerns about AI's reliability as the sole source for clinical decisions. This calls for judicious integration of AI tools in healthcare settings, ensuring that medical professionals oversee and validate AI-generated content. As we stand on the brink of a healthcare revolution, we must champion AI's safe, accurate, and beneficial use in medicine. Encouraging ongoing scrutiny and validation of AI applications will pave the way for more informed, efficient, and effective healthcare delivery.
