Join us on November 20th at 10am EST for an introduction to "CFD Simulation for Mixing Vessels: Faster with the New Ansys App" with CFD expert Hossam Metwally. The mixing tank is one of the most common pieces of equipment in the processing industry, particularly in the chemical, food and beverage sectors, and the pharmaceutical industry. Designing a mixing tank that may involve physical, chemical or biological reactions, free surfaces and numerous impelers is a real challenge in terms of reducing time to market, costs and environmental footprint. CFD simulation provides a powerful numerical method for calculating flows, mixtures and reactions in 3D (and over time). It is commonly applied to mixing vessel and stirred tank reactor scenarios. To make CFD simulation results more accessible to non-specialists and improve the productivity of current CFD users who perform CFD simulations of mixing vessels, Ansys has developed a lightweight application that sits on top of Ansys Fluent. Last week, on October 28th, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, in partnership with NASA, successfully completed the first flight of their X-59: a quiet supersonic aircraft designed for faster commercial air travel. This experimental new jet was built to break the sound barrier without the thunderous supersonic boom typically associated with supersonic flight. Ansys has been a longtime participant in AIAA and NASA workshops that address the industry need for validated and trusted approaches to modeling. These workshops cover a variety of important safety and technical aspects of flight. For example, in 2020 Ansys participated in the 3rd Sonic Boom Prediction Workshop where the primary focus was accurate prediction of the X-59's sonic "thump". Most recently, Ansys participated in the AIAA High Lift Prediction Workshop (HLPW), employing our new GPU-based solution on the prediction of the complex airflow on a commercial airliner in a landing configuration, a safety-critical component of any flight. The lessons and best practices developed for the CFD GPU runs for HLPW were then leveraged to run the high-angle-of-attack simulations for the NASA X-59, as shown in the animations in this blog. Check out the blog to learn more about the results from the workshop and the next step forward in faster, quieter air travel! The development of complex systems like a gas turbine requires a digital engineering approach. This webinar outlines a framework and digital tools to enable engineers to estimate the dynamic performance of a high bypass turbofan engine at concept stage. Behavior and parametric models are created to analyze the system configuration performance in terms of the specific trust (Ts), thrust-specific fuel consumption (TSFC), and emission characteristics for different sets of operating parameters based on different flight conditions. The predictions from the model compare very well with the test data available in the open literature.
