African Union Development Agency - Health Programmes reposted this
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to speak with JJ Thabane about a topic that remains close to my heart: the critical role of resource mobilisation in advocacy and communications for public health. In that conversation, I emphasised something that continues to ring true—Member States and funding partners must intentionally invest in advocacy and communications if we are to make meaningful progress in the fight against Substandard and Falsified Medical Products (SFMP). Strong advocacy doesn’t happen by chance. It requires: • Dedicated funding • Skilled communicators • Strategic partnerships • Consistent public engagement • A unified continental voice As we look ahead and begin shaping our priorities for 2026, I want to reiterate this call: Investing in advocacy and communications is not a “nice to have”—it is foundational to safeguarding the health of our people. When we equip our health programmes with the right communication tools, narratives, and visibility, we strengthen regulatory systems, empower communities, and create the enabling environment required to combat SFMP effectively. I remain committed to championing this agenda and look forward to continued collaboration with governments, partners, and stakeholders across the continent. Here’s to a 2026 where advocacy and communications are fully recognised as strategic investments in health, not optional extras. #Health #BuildingTheAfricaWeWant #Advocacy #Communications #AMRH #AMA
