Directional Boring 

Directional boring, or horizontal directional drilling (HDD), is a key method used in system expansion. This technique involves drilling under the ground without disturbing the surface, essential in urban or environmentally sensitive areas. Various sizes of conduits are installed through these bores, providing a pathway for electrical cables. HDD minimizes the environmental impact and disruption to the surface, making it a preferred method in populated or sensitive areas.

Another significant aspect of system expansion is pulling cables, particularly feeder cables. Feeder cables are vital as they transport power from substations to distribution transformers. Technicians use specialized equipment to pull these heavy cables through the conduits laid by directional boring. This upgrade involves removing the old splices and installing new elbow connections within the cabinets. Elbow connections are used to secure cable ends, allowing for easier maintenance and better reliability. The replacement process requires careful planning and execution to ensure continuity of service and minimize downtime.

Challenges in System Expansion
