Take Flight Intern Spotlight – Nate Mathews

Meet Nate Mathews, a Growth Strategy intern at Wingstop’s Global Support Center.

“As an Industrial and Systems Engineering major at Texas A&M University, my professional journey intertwines with my academic endeavors - I aspire to excel in Project Management, leveraging previous internship experiences to navigate complex projects seamlessly. Outside the classroom and workplace, I’m actively involved in organizations and fraternities on campus, fostering meaningful connections and contributing to an energetic campus community by participating in many philanthropy events and volunteering contributions locally. In my free time, I thrive in the great outdoors, finding solace in fishing and hunting adventures. I am also socially active, cherishing moments with friends and family, whether going out or simply enjoying each other’s company. These experiences have driven me socially and professionally and I am excited to see what the future holds!”

What attracted you to Wingstop’s Take Flight internship program?

“Work culture is what captivated me. I really enjoyed the vibes during the hiring process and out of the other companies I interviewed with, I didn’t feel much of a fundamental work culture that grabbed my attention as Wingstop did.”

As a Growth Strategy intern, what have you enjoyed most about joining the Wingstop team?

“I’ve enjoyed the hands-on experience, visiting the restaurants and seeing how a restaurant company operates in a corporate setting. It’s very fast-paced, so I’m always on the move! Meeting new faces and seeing the changes implemented in restaurants is the fun part of being on the Growth Strategy Team. Also, having Elmer as my mentor has been amazing! Like myself, he was an industrial engineering major and has taken me under his wing to show me how everything I’m learning at Texas A&M is being put in a real-world setting.”

Do you have any tips for future Wingstop Take Flight Interns?

“Don’t be afraid to take chances and ask questions. It’s okay not to know everything and to remember that no question is a dumb question. 1:1s are vital to personal growth – take time to meet and connect with everybody within the company and take as much notes as you can. Being an intern is a major part of your professional development, providing you with valuable knowledge you wouldn’t want to take for granted.”
