Sisterhood in Hospitality - Why Checking In Matters More Than Ever

Sisterhood in Hospitality - Why Checking In Matters More Than Ever

Today is RUOK? Day, a powerful reminder that a simple question can make a world of difference. But more importantly, it’s a reminder that looking out for each other should never be limited to just one day on the calendar.

In hospitality, we work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments where the focus is often on service, speed, and perfection. But behind every apron, barista machine, or service pass is a human being who may be carrying silent struggles. Asking “Are you OK?” and more importantly listening with genuine care, can be the first step to breaking that silence.

For us at Women in Cafes and Restaurants, community and connection are at the heart of what we do. We’ve seen firsthand the value of women checking in on women, of supporting our workmates, friends, and family. Sometimes it’s not about having the perfect answer, it’s about simply showing up, being present, and reminding someone they are not alone.

Beyond Just One Day

While RUOK? Day is an important awareness moment, mental health needs attention every day. Let’s keep the conversation alive long after today ends. Build it into your culture, your workplace, and your friendships. Real care doesn’t run on a schedule.

Resources That Can Help

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to seek support.  💛 Today, and every day, let’s remind each other that asking “Are you OK?” is not just a question, it’s an act of care, connection, and community.
