Predicting Patient-Specific Therapeutic Responses with Organ-on-a-Chip Technology

Emulate and FDA Collaborate to Advance Inhaled Drug Testing with Lung-Chip Technology
Through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), Emulate and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collaborated to evaluate an Airway Lung-Chip as a tool for measuring the permeability of inhaled drugs.
The study demonstrated that the Airway Lung-Chip successfully mimics key features of human lung physiology—including the air-liquid interface and relevant epithelial and endothelial cell types—and can accurately measure the permeability of clinically used inhaled compounds. These findings highlight the potential of human-relevant technology to improve preclinical drug development and reduce reliance on animal testing.

The Future of Biology Is Taking Shape—in Space!

As part of NASA’s Artemis II mission, human Bone Marrow-Chips using cells from the astronauts crewing Artemis II—developed using Emulate’s Organ-on-a-Chip technology—will help researchers study how deep-space travel affects the human body at the cellular level.
