Maxol Unveils Upgraded Enniscorthy Station Following €400k Investment

Maxol has officially reopened its Enniscorthy service station on Bellefield Road, following an investment of more than €400,000.

The investment has seen the Wexford site transformed into a more modern, convenience-led destination for the local community.

The new-look deli now includes a Southern fried-chicken counter serving hand-breaded crispy fried chicken, while the ROSA Coffee offering now has a third machine, as well as oat drink options, to meet changing customer tastes.

A larger in-store bakery has also been introduced, featuring a bespoke display area and an extended range of fresh breads, pastries and cakes.

Dunnes Stores To Close Drogheda Location After 50 Years In Business

Dunnes Stores in Drogheda, Co. Louth, will close on 31 October, after over 50 years in business, The Irish Times reported on Tuesday.

The store, located on West Street, is one of the retailer’s oldest outlets, and its closure will affect its approximately 27 staff.

This is a blow to the town, after Marks & Spencer announced it was closing its Drogheda outlet in February last year.

Labour Party enterprise spokesperson and local TD for the area Ged Nash said at the time that the closure of the only M&S store in the region was “devastating news”, and noted that its presence likely attracted footfall to the town, which dried up after its closure.

Dunnes Stores’ founder Ben Dunne had a close association with the Louth town, having described an apprenticeship as a draper there in 1926 as a ‘turning point’ in his life.

Most of the staff at the store have been with the retailer for up to 20 years, and were said to be ‘shocked and disappointed’ at the unexpected news, which management relayed to them on Monday.

Dawn Meats Achieves 63% Reduction In Scope 1 And Scope 2 Emissions

Dawn Meats has reported a 63% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions as part of its Plan Four Zero sustainability strategy.

The meat processor achieved this reduction over 6 years from 2018 to 2024 as part of its €100 million-plus strategy, which includes the target of reaching Net Zero by 2040.

The details are contained in a new sustainability update from Dawn Meats, which charts how the company has saved enough water to fill over 1,272 Olympic-sized swimming pools and has increased the volume of waste recycled, reused and recovered to 75%.

This update also includes Dawn Meats’ plans to rollout solar installations at sites across Ireland and the UK, following the successful installation of solar PV panels at the company’s Irish headquarters in Grannagh, Co. Waterford.

The update covers the 18 months from January 2024 to June 2025.

Marks & Spencer UK Extends Archie Norman’s Tenure To 2029

British retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) has extended Archie Norman’s tenure as chairman for three more years from September 2026, saying the decision has the “widespread support” of shareholders.

Norman, one of the best known names in UK business, started as M&S chairman in 2017, and is widely credited with playing a key role in the revival of the group’s performance and its share price in recent years.

Under Britain’s corporate governance code, a chair is expected to step down nine years after joining the board, unless companies can explain why an extension is justified.

Norman reaches the nine-year mark in September next year.

On Tuesday, M&S – which is still recovering from a cyber-attack in April – said, “The board is unanimous in its conviction that his continuation as chairman is in the best interests of the company and there is widespread support for this view across the shareholder base.”
