How Marc optimizes EV charging at his service station with Electrification X
On the A7 freeway near a usually quiet mid-sized town in Germany... As the owner of an Electric Vehicle, we’ve all been there: close to our destination, but low on battery. Panic!
What’s the plan? Where is the nearest EV fast-charging station? This usually takes us to an EV charging station like Marc’s. Marc’s charging station is located near the well-known Hannover Messe trade fair exhibition area.
Most of the year, EV charging isn’t much of a concern for him. But with HANNOVER MESSE right around the corner, he starts thinking: More people driving electric vehicles means more people wanting to charge. And we all know that the world’s leading industrial trade fair attracts huge crowds – and a whole lot of EVs.
That’s good for business, but it also comes with its challenges:
Demand Charges - An Unwanted Surprise
A surge in EV users needing to charge, if not managed properly, could cause a huge peak in Marc’s charging station load. And then there’s the time after the event: Most of Marc’s chargers will sit idle, underutilized. This one-off peak could bring an unwanted surprise, an unusually high demand charge in Marc’s annual electricity bill.
But there’s a smart way to handle this in a safe, efficient, and sustainable way: Electrification X
Electrification X helps Marc handle peak demand at his station with Load Management during high demand events like #HM25. The smart load management optimizes power distribution, so Marc doesn’t have to worry about unusually high demand charges in his annual utility bill. Neither does he have to reprice his EV Charging tariffs to compensate for this unusual demand from one-off events.
Active Load Control – Grid operators' best friend
He also doesn’t need to upgrade his grid connection to install additional chargers to attract more EV drivers with available charging spots. More customers mean additional revenue in sales at his convenience stores.
And it’s not just Marc who benefits. Grid operators can rest easy knowing that Electrification X provides them with an interface to stabilize the system when needed to reduce the stress on the grid by limiting charging at their stations, avoiding disruptions during high-demand periods.
Time to scale
What works for Marc can work for any petrol station owner looking to electrify their stations with charging infrastructure and cater to the ever-increasing demand for #EVCharging. Electrification X is scalable and works for customers of all sizes who are installing charging infrastructure and not just for the ones near HANNOVER MESSE .
Electrification X is certainly up for the task.
Join us at Hannover Fair in Hall 9 for a live demo and a deep dive into new levels of efficient load management, grid stability, and sustainability.
