“The F.I.R.E.D Leader” is a wake up call to organizations who are stagnant in their way of thinking....
This is what one reviewer of my first book said.
I was reminded of this when I received an email from my publisher, Practical Inspiration Publishing informing me that it's been 6 months since my book was published.
6 months!
6 months since I published the world's first book to help organizations, leaders, and those in the HR, disruption, and leadership space to understand (and prepare for) the types of leaders we will increasingly need for the future.
I've purposefully taken some time out to figure out what I really want to do with this book, my wider work, and the impact I truly want to have on the future of work and leadership.
Only recently have I started to appear on more podcasts, do more speaking and begin to explore the true value that this book can have on evolving the conversations (and practices) about the future of leadership.
So imagine my shock when my book was recently named one of the 8 finalists in the ‘leadership’ category for the 2024 UK Business Book Awards .
Over 50 people have so far endorsed it, including Marshall Goldsmith , John Spence , Whitney Johnson , Tim S. , Donato Tramuto and a range of others.

And if that wasn't enough, my publisher wants to enter my book into the 2024 Financial Times and Schroders Business Book of the Year. An annual award that celebrates the best in business writing and aims to identify and highlight books that provide outstanding insights into modern business issues, including management, finance, and economics.
More on this award can be found here: https://www.ft.com/bookaward and I'll be writing more about it in the coming weeks.
In other news, I had some recent conversations with John Spence and Kevin McDonnell in which they eloquently reminded me what I have developed through the book and recent introductory learning program is basically:
A framework and suite of supporting tools to develop leaders in a better way that prepares those leaders to better support the organizations they are part of
This then got me thinking more about the true value of my work in this area.

Everyone typically thinks and propagates that they have the answer to addressing client challenges, though the area I've stumbled upon truly is unique, different, and critical to how we ensure our organizations find, celebrate, embrace, and keep better leaders to do better things that result in better impacts.
I could bombard you with all the research I've accumulated over the last 5 years. Still, until you 'do the math' in your organization about the true cost of disengagement, turnover, lower productivity, and decreasing morale in your organization's current challenges, such research will not fully resonate.
So instead, I asked myself what the true value is of what I offer - and it essentially breaks down into the following - all of which can and do lead to addressing the increasing costs incurred by the above:
- A methodology and framework that shows organizations (including HR and Hiring Managers) how they can hire the best leaders, retain those leaders, and develop those leaders with the leadership capabilities they will need for the future
- A suite of supporting tools (which include mentoring, coaching and learning programs) that improves how those leaders lead
- This methodology, framework, and suite of supporting tools positions organizations to identify, recruit, and develop (and retain) future leaders as part of evolving their organization’s future leadership pipeline and succession planning needs
This then enables those organizations to achieve their strategic, operational, people and revenue-related goals
Suppose you want to find out more about these areas.
In that case, I've just launched the world's first series of learning programs that support organizations to be future-ready and successfully navigate ongoing disruption by:
- Reducing turnover costs
- Increasing productivity
- Improving morale
