Caring in action: How American Airlines is uplifting communities, empowering people and investing in the future
This month’s newsletter celebrates the heart of American: our people and our purpose. From having nearly 200 students on campus to partnering with Stand Up To Cancer® for the ninth year, we’re making meaningful strides in the communities we serve.
We also spotlighted our summer interns, honored WWII veterans through Soaring Valor flights and surprised customers with 750,000 AAdvantage® bonus miles on National Aviation Day.

American and Stand Up To Cancer unite to accelerate lifesaving research
American proudly continues its partnership with Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C) for the ninth consecutive year, launching its 2025 campaign to support groundbreaking cancer research. This year’s initiative emphasizes the importance of early detection, understanding family health history and advancing personalized treatments — all with a shared goal of creating a future free from cancer.
Our collaboration with SU2C has embodied our mission to care for people on life’s journey.
From Aug. 15 to Sept. 30, customers who donate $25 or more to SU2C online at StandUpToCancer.org/AmericanAirlines will receive 25 AAdvantage® bonus miles for every dollar contributed.

Celebrating our summer interns: Wishing you success as you take the next step
We had nearly 200 interns make a lasting impact across our company this summer. From leading projects to volunteering at the airport, they embodied our values of excellence and caring for people on life’s journey.
In addition to giving back, interns engaged in thought-provoking projects that changed thinking and sparked innovation. They networked with senior leaders, traveled the world and gained mentorship that will shape their careers for years to come.
Our recruiting team will be visiting campuses soon, so keep an eye out! Learn more about our Interns and Grad programs.

Celebrating National Aviation Day with a mile-high surprise
We celebrated #NationalAviationDay on Aug. 19 with a surprise giveaway of 750,000 AAdvantage® bonus miles to customers flying on two randomly selected flights out of Chicago (ORD).
The lucky customers received certificates of AAdvantage® bonus miles in varying amounts up to 100,000 bonus miles, which they can redeem for flights, hotels, car rentals or cruises.
To make the moment even more festive, the gate featured balloons, refreshments and music. It’s our way of celebrating aviation and showing appreciation to our customers — one mile at a time.
A long-awaited tribute: honoring Vietnam veterans with the welcome they deserve
When Vietnam veterans returned from the war, many did not receive a proper welcome home. Thanks to the Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight, veterans are met with applause and celebration for their unspoken sacrifice.
Nearly 100 Vietnam veterans boarded an American charter flight from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor, many for the first time. Through close coordination with Old Glory Honor Flight and the Experimental Aircraft Association, we’re proud to help provide the homecoming these heroes deserved.
Honoring heroes, inspiring generations
We’re honored to continue our ongoing partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation and supporting Soaring Valor missions that honor our nation’s heroes.
We recently had the privilege of flying 11 World War II veterans from Chicago to New Orleans for a powerful visit to the National WWII Museum. Students from Glenbard West High School joined the journey to hear the veterans’ powerful stories firsthand.

A career and a love story that took flight
In 1989, a young pilot named Tony Davis boarded the American employee bus at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport with a cheerful “Good morning!” — a moment that would mark the beginning of a lifelong journey with flight attendant Susan Forrest. Their chance encounter on a cold morning led to a first date, a phone number written on a tortilla and eventually a marriage in 1991. Over the next three decades, Tony and Susan built a life rooted in aviation, raising two sons and sharing countless memories with colleagues and family members who also served at American. Their story is a testament to the power of connection in the skies and within the American Airlines family.

1moI experienced serious discrimination by an AA staff member at Miami Airport and still haven’t received a proper response. My formal complaints were ignored while the same employee was transferred to another AA flight. Please check your DMs or contact me directly for details.

1moSharing my experience with American Airlines: I faced discrimination at Miami Airport, my complaint was mishandled, and the situation was never properly investigated. I hope AA will take responsibility and respond properly. #AmericanAirlines #Accountability@AmericanAirlines

2moAmerican Airlines was my dads employer for 30 years. We were proud to have the airline privelages and followed the rules for non rev traveling. We had to dress in our Sunday best and be polite and behaved. I’m the oldest of the 5 kids and can remember the excitement of going on family trips. Sometimes we had to separate divided and conquer when non rev seats were full. We were young and did not realize the stress it caused for my parents. We had fun and did what we were told. We understood the travel was a big perk from my dads job. I’m still a loyal American Airlines traveler. I have not had any bad experiences with American. Travel today is hard with all the TSA and getting to the gate. So far no rude employees . It’s sad to hear the stories , be persistent go to the highest up in the departments there will be someone with the expertise needed to fix your problem.
