Major milestone reached for the Liddell Battery
Alongside our partner Lumea, we reached a major milestone in the development of the Liddell Battery with the arrival of the second 254-tonne transformer.
Transported on custom-built trailers, both transformers have now made the nine-hour journey from the Port of Newcastle to their new home at our Hunter Energy Hub – marking a significant step forward in the construction of the 500 MW, two-hour duration Liddell Battery.
Once complete, the Liddell Battery will join our growing suite of grid scale battery assets, and provide important storage and firming capacity as we transition to a renewable energy system.

The next chapter in our decarbonisation journey
We’re proud to launch our 2025 Climate Transition Action Plan (CTAP).
This updated plan builds on the strong foundations of our inaugural 2022 CTAP. It reaffirms our commitment to be net zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions following the targeted closure of coal-fired generation by the end of FY35 and charts a pathway to be net zero for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2050.
Our 2025 CTAP reflects the collective efforts of teams across AGL and our commitment to a responsible, inclusive and customer-centric energy transition.
