5 Signals That You Need a Strategic Plan

I knew I wasn’t going to make it the moment I left the ground.

The fence was just a bit higher than I had calculated, and instead of clearing it, I landed in a bruised heap on the other side.

That’s when my friend pointed to a gate just a few feet away and said, “Why didn’t we just go down there?”

A fair question. Had I paused to consider my options, I could’ve saved myself the blood, the bruises — and gotten home faster.

Funny how the decision to plan better often doesn’t come until after a hard landing.

In leadership and business, the same lesson applies. We often leap before we’ve mapped the path. So, in the spirit of helping others avoid unnecessary pain — physical or strategic — here are 5 signs it might be time to hit pause and develop a strategic plan:

🔹 You don’t have a confident, consistent answer to: “Where does your organization need to be in 3–5 years to thrive?”

🔹 You can’t clearly articulate where your business will be even a year from now.

🔹 There’s ongoing internal conflict over how to allocate time, money, or talent.

🔹 Employees (and even customers) struggle to explain what you do — and why you do it.

🔹 You know where you want to go, but not how to get there.

You’ll be amazed at the momentum that builds when your entire organization aligns behind clear, well-communicated, vision-driven decisions.

Don't jump blindly. Take the gate. Let us help at Milestone Leadership
