Too often, leaders see themselves at the centre of the universe. But real leadership is about recognising you’re part of a wider constellation. In our latest Unleash Your Impact, Unlock Others episode, Dave and I discuss how to lead with a stakeholder mindset, balancing power, empathy, and service to create impact across your ecosystem. I also share one of my favourite practical tools: stakeholder mapping, a creative way to visualise influence and relationships that goes far beyond a spreadsheet. 🎧 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eRRnAmTq

You can’t manage what you don’t measure. Every founder has a vision — but few have a measurement system that tells them if they’re actually moving toward it. That’s where KPIs come in. When you set clear, measurable KPIs that align with your strategy, you give your team a scoreboard. Everyone knows the goal, how to win, and when you’re off track. ✅ Define the “what” — your company vision ✅ Translate it into “how” — specific objectives ✅ Track progress with “proof” — data-driven KPIs When your KPIs are clear, performance becomes transparent, accountability grows naturally, and execution finally matches ambition. 🎧 In this episode of Scale to Exit, I walk through how to build KPIs that bring your strategy — and your vision — to life. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gQF2Jt3W #ScaleToExit #Leadership #KPI #BusinessStrategy #FractionalCFO #Execution #DataDriven #VisionToAction #ScalingBusiness

Compliance isn’t the same as engagement. In this episode of Ideas For Leaders, host Roddy Millar is joined by Vanessa Druskat, Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the University of New Hampshire, to explore why care is the backbone of high-performing teams. If you don’t care for individuals, they check out. They do the bare minimum. Or they stop bringing their best. We’ve known this truth for decades, yet it’s still dismissed as “soft”. No outstanding team thrives without care at its core. Directing and instructing might yield compliance. But genuine care fuels engagement, commitment, and innovation. It’s not wasted energy. It’s the most strategic investment a leader can make. 🎧 Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eacC-cCu #LeadershipDevelopment #EmotionalIntelligence #PeopleFirstLeadership #TeamCulture #IdeasForLeaders #HighPerformanceTeams #HumanCenteredLeadership

We train leaders to make decisions. But not to handle disagreement. James Chicanot has coached leaders through every kind of conflict from executive feuds to team meltdowns. And here’s what he’s noticed: “Most leaders are expected to manage conflict… but no one ever teaches them how.” We study strategy. Finance. Operations. But not how to stay calm when someone challenges us in a meeting. That’s why so many leaders either avoid conflict (or just bulldoze through it). Here’s a quick way to improve instantly: When tension shows up, pause and ask yourself, “Am I reacting… or responding with intention?” Thanks for joining us this week, James! Let’s talk about one of the biggest mindset traps that keeps even the most driven leaders stuck: getting attached to the how. 🔄 That’s what we dove into on Day 3 of Stop Waiting for a Promotion to Lead—The Lead Intact® 3-Day Series. Because here’s the truth—when you’re growing, leading, or building something new, your first solution is rarely the final one. But what often happens is this: you come up with a plan, it doesn’t go perfectly, and suddenly the inner critic says, ‘See? It’s not working. Maybe I should just give up.’ No. That’s not failure—it’s feedback. Leadership isn’t about clinging to one path. It’s about staying curious enough to ask, ‘Was this the right approach? What else could work? What other ways can I move toward this goal?’ When you detach from how it’s supposed to happen, you make space for creativity, flexibility, and actual growth. The most effective leaders aren’t the ones who always get it right—they’re the ones who keep reassessing, reimagining, and trying again. So, stop getting attached to the plan. Get attached to the vision. Because that’s where your real power lives. Want to get this 3-Day series directly in your inbox?
