Repak Chief Operations Officer Tom Gaynor outlines the company’s role in packaging waste in a circular economy: 1. Support household and business recycling, bottle banks, and civic amenities through fees from REPAK’s 3,500-plus members; 2. Lead the efficient collection and recycling of packaging waste; 3. Provide support and guidance on packaging design and promote a circular economy of reduce, reuse, refill, and recycle; 4. Collaborate with the EU to design and implement legislation while meeting challenges and managing the implications for Ireland; and 5. Proposals to revise the use of our household wate recycling centres will be considered by councillors next week. Under the new plans, the centres use would be restricted to North Yorkshire residents. Owners of commercial-like vehicles would also be allowed up to 12 free visits a year to dispose of their own household waste. If introduced, it is estimated to generate savings of up to £405,000 per year and will improve access due to fewer visitors from outside of the county. To read more, visit: https://lnkd.in/ecX3D3GJ

♻️ Big Change Coming to Ontario’s Blue Bins! Starting January 1, 2026, recycling in Ontario will transition to a new system called Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) — meaning companies that make packaging will now manage and fund the Blue Box program. 🏠 What This Means for You: Toronto will no longer handle recycling collection — it will be run by Circular Materials, a not-for-profit organization. Blue bins will receive new stickers throughout 2025 to prepare for the switch. ♻️ WRAP launches new toolkit to help councils communicate simpler recycling changes As England prepares for the simpler recycling reforms coming into effect in March 2026, WRAP has unveiled new guidance and communication materials to help councils explain what’s changing and why. 📍 Did you know there are now 34 NSW CRC locations that accept vapes? 🌬️ Vapes do not belong in general waste, or recycling bins. They can’t even be accepted at the battery bins commonly found in Coles Group, Woolworths Supermarkets, Bunnings, ALDI Stores Australia and others. 🪫 In recognition of this, the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has established a trial, in partnership with local councils, to accept products with embedded batteries (including vapes) at selected Community Recycling Centre locations. 1️⃣3️⃣ In September 2025, an additional 13 locations were added to the 21 existing locations. 📅 The embedded batteries trial started in September 2024 and will run until September 2026. 👏 Unless (or until) there is a nationally coordinated scheme for vape disposal, states need to step up.
