Let’s be honest...recycling rules can be confusing! Our recent survey uncovered that around 50% of people place items they are uncertain about in general waste, while 25% engage in “wish-cycling”. Both of these are problematic, leading to increased contamination, rejected bins, and wasted materials, ultimately costing businesses more time and money. In our latest blog we explore: 🔹The current issues with recycling 🔹The general public and businesses knowledge of recycling rules 🔹Common recycling mistakes 🔹Waste legislation in the UK Read the full blog by clicking the link in the comments. The state just opened its first recycling drop-off center under its new EPR for packaging program — the first of 140+planned sites to collect hard-to-recycle materials not accepted curbside. A great example of how producer responsibility can expand recycling options and infrastructure for everyone. At EPR Decoded, we help brands, designers, and producers understand what programs like Oregon’s mean for their packaging — and how to stay compliant across all EPR states. 👉 Follow EPR Decoded for clear, state-by-state insights on packaging EPR implementation, or contact us to learn how we can help your business get ready. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eXErUF3f #EPRDecoded #EPR #Recycling #CircularEconomy #PackagingDesign #Compliance Diversion Strategies

Recycling plays a critical role in sustainability efforts. On a national scale, the Environmental Protection Agency is striving to achieve a 50% recycling rate by 2030. But locally, in metro Phoenix, cities face an ongoing challenge of ensuring people understand the rules. Residential recycling can have a lot of unknown regulations. On the surface, intuition is easy to follow. You have your paper, your plastic, your glass and aluminum. But beyond basic knowledge, effective recycling takes research and community effort. The complicated truth is just because an item fits the general criteria doesn't mean it’s always recyclable https://buff.ly/fHTLD4B

♻️ Grateful to Resource Recycling, Inc. for the opportunity to share this perspective and to the Container Recycling Institute for their invaluable data insights. While seven states pilot EPR for packaging programs, recycling refunds are a proven, bipartisan solution to create jobs, strengthen communities, cut pollution, and fuel a more circular economy. 🔄 As Heidi Sanborn, MPA notes in this month's issue, deposit return systems (DRS): ✅ Deliver 11–38x more jobs than curbside programs alone ✅ Keep aluminum, glass, and PET circulating in the U.S. economy ✅ Cut litter by up to 50%, saving communities time and money ✅ Provide a bipartisan, common-sense path toward circularity Texas’ recent progress shows that momentum is building — and with strong public, private, and nonprofit collaboration, the U.S. can scale what already works. More councils are becoming Carton Ready! Residents across York can now recycle liquid cartons – including juice and soup cartons – at the kerbside. Thanks to an upgrade to the city’s recycling service, cartons can now go in the same container as glass, plastics and tins, making recycling simpler and more consistent for households. Through our Carton Ready Campaign, ACE UK is proud to support local authorities like City of York Council as they expand kerbside collections and help deliver a more circular economy. National Recycling Week is a crucial time to address a pressing issue in Western Australia. With a staggering average of 30 fires per week in WA and an estimated 12,000 to 15,000 annually across Australia involving recycling and waste collection vehicles, urgent action is needed. These fires, often caused by improper disposal of lithium-ion batteries, pose a significant risk to truck drivers who face the daily fear of their vehicles catching fire. 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Imagine if your job faced that sort of risk 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 To tackle this problem, the The Waste and Recycling Industry Association of WA are advocating for the implementation of Product Stewardship Regulations for batteries in WA, similar to those already in place in NSW. The initial focus will be on smaller loose batteries, including those found in embedded e-micromobility devices. Subsequent regulations will target embedded battery types in consumer electronics, with future plans to address built infrastructure and electric vehicles. Collaboration with other jurisdictions is essential to ensure national alignment on this critical issue. Let's work together to ensure a safer environment for all and prevent these dangerous incidents, and lets do it quickly. 📢 Cartons can absolutely be useful again. How? To start, when cartons are collected and recycled, they can turn into new products (where proper recycling infrastructure is in place). But that’s not all, carton recycling also helps to build systems that make circularity possible. If you want to learn more about why cartons matter, check out our story 👉 https://lnkd.in/dS4yJ_W7
