#MakeItCountMonday: Start the Week with Credible Claims As expectations around environmental claims continue to tighten, procurement teams and manufacturers are under growing pressure to demonstrate clear, specific and verifiable sustainability outcomes. At GECA, we see first-hand how easy it is for well-intentioned businesses to unintentionally overstate or misunderstand the claims they’re making. And with the ACCC’s guidance placing strong emphasis on evidence, clarity and transparency, credible third-party verification is more important than ever. That’s why our Claims Authentication service exists — to help organisations move beyond vague or self-declared assertions and ensure their claims are backed by independent, ISO 14021-aligned assessment. This not only reduces greenwashing risk, but strengthens trust with customers, procurement teams and project partners who rely on accurate, science-backed information. Whether you’re preparing for new sustainability requirements, responding to customer demand for transparency, or planning a pathway towards lifecycle ecolabel certification, credible claims are a powerful way to make it count — today and into the future. Start your week with confidence. Learn how GECA can support you to build trust, demonstrate leadership and strengthen the integrity of your sustainability story: https://lnkd.in/gBFrehbv

As someone who spends a lot of time thinking about how we communicate sustainability with clarity and integrity, I’m really proud of the work our team is doing to support businesses in making credible, evidence-based claims. With expectations tightening and greenwashing risks increasing, independent verification isn’t just a “nice to have” - it’s becoming essential for anyone wanting to communicate their impact responsibly. If your organisation is navigating environmental claims or preparing for future reporting requirements, GECA’s Claims Authentication service is a practical way to build trust and strengthen transparency.

🌍 IFRS Sustainability Symposium Overview The event brought together preparers, investors and market leaders from 48 jurisdictions to discuss practical pathways to adoption of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) Standards. ✅ Key Take-aways 1. ISSB Standards as the global passport Nearly 40 jurisdictions (covering ~60% of global GDP) are adopting or using ISSB Standards — signalling a shift to a truly global baseline for sustainability-related disclosures. The newly expanded “Jurisdictional Adopters Working Group” and the new Jurisdictional Rationale Guide and accompanying tool aim to support regulatory dialogue and facilitate smoother adoption. 2. Alignment of regional and global standards (EU/ESRS) For companies reporting under both the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and ISSB Standards, interoperability is key. Collaboration between International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and European Financial Reporting Advisory Group is underway to ensure ESRS simplification (via the European Commission’s Omnibus package) remains aligned with ISSB, helping companies apply ISSB as a foundation and “top-up” for regional differences. 3. Level playing field & competitive advantage through quality disclosure A global baseline means companies of all sizes can enhance comparability, transparency and investor access. ISSB Standards include proportionality and transition relief mechanisms so entities can adopt at a manageable pace while meeting investor needs. 4. Quality over quantity in disclosures Investors reiterated that disclosures should not simply be box-ticking. They must tell a coherent story of value creation: how the company is navigating sustainability-related risks and opportunities across the short, medium and long term. 5. Strong demand for industry-specific disclosures Industry-specific reporting helps investors and management alike understand unique risk-/opportunity-profiles. The role of the SASB Standards Standards in providing industry-specific guidance remains central. ISSB is seeking feedback (until 30 Nov 2025) on enhancements to nine SASB Standards and related guidance on nature and human capital. Why ISSB reporting? With the sustainability-reporting environment rapidly evolving, the adoption of globally-recognised standards like ISSB helps align investor requirements, cross-border capital flows and regulatory regimes. For companies, the message is clear: move beyond compliance, focus on meaningful disclosures, build data governance and seize strategic value. #SustainabilityDisclosure #ISSB #ESRS #SASB #GlobalReportingStandards #SustainabilityAccounting #InvestorReporting #CorporateGovernance #ClimateRisk #HumanCapital #NatureRelatedDisclosure #IFRS #SustainabilityLeadership #PathwayToAdoption

📣🇪🇺 European Commission 2026 work programme The European Commission published its 2026 work programme this week. It includes a number of legislative initiatives, with the stated goal of strengthening the EU’s competitiveness and supporting innovation, notably by (hopefully) simplifying regulations for economic operators. Several initiatives will have a direct impact on key sectors: 🧬 Life Sciences with the proposed #EuropeanBiotechAct ☁️ Technology with the proposed #CloudandAIDevelopmentAct Others will cut across industries: 🔬#EuropeanInnovationAct – creating a single market for innovation and accelerating the commercialization of research results, in close connection with the #EuropeanResearchAreaAct. ♻️ #CircularEconomyAct – establishing a single market for secondary raw materials, increasing supply of high-quality recycled materials, and stimulating demand within the EU. Consumer protection remains a priority for the European Commission with: • #EuropeanProductAct – updating product rules, market surveillance, compliance, and standardization. • #DigitalFairnessAct – protecting consumers in the digital space against commercial practices deemed manipulative or unfair. At Bird & Bird, we are closely monitoring these developments to help businesses navigate a world where products and services are increasingly interconnected… and regulated. #ProductsLaw #ProductCompliance #ProductLiability #ConsumerLaw #LifeSciences #Tech #EUInnovation #EUCompetitiveness

👏 Panel Discussion Participant | Audrius Šileika With over 30 years of professional experience in sustainability and environmental management, Audrius Šileika leads DNV Lithuania, a world-leading testing, inspection, and certification organization dedicated to safeguarding life, property, and the environment. DNV helps businesses ensure the performance and integrity of their organizations, products, people, and supply chains. At the Nordic–Baltic Sustainable Business Summit 2025, Audrius will take part in the Sustainable Governance block’s panel discussion, “From Greenwashing to Real Governance: Who Holds the Board Accountable?” Audrius will share insights on how organizations can build credibility, transparency, and trust in their sustainability efforts through verified actions rather than slogans. 💬 Key takeaways: ✔️ The risks of greenwashing – when environmental or social achievements are overstated without real action. ✔️ The gap between certification and integration – obtaining standards like ISO 14001 is not enough without embedding them in core operations. ✔️ The role of verification and third-party assurance in preventing ESG imitation and ensuring reliable, traceable, and auditable data. ✔️ The importance of stakeholder engagement, competence building, and transparency across all levels – from internal teams to society and government. ✔️ How evolving EU regulations (like the Green Claims Directive, Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, and Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive) are reshaping corporate accountability. ✔️ And finally, why customer education and empowerment are key to advancing genuine sustainability. #SustainableBusinessSummit #ESG #Governance #Leadership #Sustainability #Greenwashing #Transparency
