At that time, I had several proofs of occupancy, including: • Utility bills • Mortgage statements • Photos of furnished rooms • My children living there • My disabled mother staying there • Tax records • Water bills None of that mattered. The denial came first, and the idea of an “investigation” only showed up after I challenged it and cited my rights. Most homeowners don’t know this can happen. I didn’t either. Here’s the warning: Even when Travelers confirms your damage and pays your claim, they can still deny ALE first — before investigating anything — leaving families in unsafe or unlivable conditions while they “review.”
