Our Strategy Director Kevin McNulty has just taken to the stage to share his vision on “Turning Connectivity into Revenue” 🚀 In his keynote, Kevin is diving into how fibre operators can evolve beyond infrastructure build-out, focusing instead on creating sustainable, long-term growth. He’s unpacking the strategies that turn operational efficiency into real revenue impact, helping operators unlock the full value of their networks. As the industry shifts from expansion to monetisation, it’s all about finding smarter ways to deliver lasting returns. Also joining Kevin on behalf of ITS at Network X is our CTO, Mike Goodwin -both on hand to talk all things fibre, connectivity, and the future of digital infrastructure. #NetworkX #Telecoms #Fibre #Connectivity #DigitalInfrastructure

The UK's Fibre Race: Stop Building Alone, Start Partnering Smartly. The full-fibre build-out game in the UK is changing rapidly. With Net Generation ISPs (Altnets) like CityFibre, Netomnia, APFN, and others quickly laying down serious FTTP networks, it's time for established Service Providers and new players to pivot. Instead of viewing Altnets just as rivals, we should see them as crucial partners. Honestly, the fastest, most cost-effective way to hit nationwide gigabit coverage and scale up subscriber numbers is through collaborative wholesale access. Why waste capital building where someone else already has? To get ahead, two bits of technology are absolutely key to your future success: Layer 2 Ethernet Services: By leveraging Altnet infrastructure via high-capacity wholesale Ethernet, you get guaranteed symmetrical speeds, solid SLAs, and essential traffic control without the massive investment needed to run physical fibre to every single postcode. Network-to-Network Interface (NNI): Think of the NNI as the critical motorway interchange. It's the standard, scalable connection point that lets your network and the new fibre builders exchange data quickly and seamlessly. An NNI-first approach gives you access to speeds up to 100Gbps, massively simplifies the complicated stuff, and cuts your time-to-market right down. By focusing on NNI and properly embracing wholesale Ethernet, we can smash through bottlenecks, seriously enhance service reliability, and collectively get the UK over the Project Gigabit finish line faster. Working together is simply the most commercial path to dominance. Who's in your partner ecosystem right now to unlock this next phase of growth? Let's have a chat about accelerating your market share through smart interconnection. #UKFibre #Telecoms #NNI #WholesaleBroadband #Ethernet #Altnet #DigitalInfrastructure #ProjectGigabit

See below an interesting post from Gareth on Ethernet/NNI’s and the future Altnet opportunity At Connected Britain there was a lot of discussion around the Altnet’s needing to collaborate with Open Access and standardisation of services……in many of the breakout sessions there was a lot of discussion about the need to get into Wholesale and to sell profitable services and up selling into B2B What wasn’t discussed in any real detail by those Altnet’s who don’t have a dedicated B2B model or any real experience in this area is the massive gap between delivering consumer services and those needed for business, complex Enterprise and CNI (skills, processes, systems and complex migration skills to move “live resilient services”) Challengingly, the end B2B customers know and understand the delivery models offered by OR/Virgin and the other dedicated B2B providers – until those other Altnet’s service offerings start to reflect these key differences, its hard to see how they will be successful in the business market especially without the skills to do large migration projects….over the next 5-10 years the OR Exchange Closure project will provide a great opportunity for Altnet’s to target B2B services if they are prepared - technology and clever networks are important, however, without an acceptable service model, large B2B customers won't take the risk to migrate services If anyone wants support or advise in this area, please reach out

The exchange consolidation/closure programme raises a number of issues around diversity and separation of circuits. How will BT/Openreach continue to provide Resilience Option 2 (RO2) circuits when there are 80% fewer exchanges? Will costs rise as local access links become much longer? This is an area where the altnets have the potential to provide alternative infrastructure, PoPs and onward network capacity to ensure diverse routes remain truly diverse. sSTRING and SICOM UK can help corporates navigate this changing environment.

#OpenRAN drives new opportunities for competition and innovation. Companies like 1Finity, a Fujitsu company, are stepping up, bringing fresh energy and options to the market. Verizon’s Yago Tenorio notes, “You have players like Fujitsu, which used to be a supplier to your suppliers. Now they can supply to you as well. That is a very important change that drives competition.” By standardizing interfaces, #ORAN enables operators to choose from a wider range of suppliers, increasing flexibility and reducing costs.
