Can the oyster shells on your plate have a second life? You bet they can. Nik Heynen is helping rebuild Georgia’s coast—one oyster shell at a time. Through Shell to Shore, a local organization that uses recycled oyster shells from local restaurants to create living shorelines that protect coastal habitats and reduce erosion. This work is supported in part by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's SOAR grant, a federal initiative funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to support aquaculture and habitat restoration near coastal communities. With the help of community, science and government funding, these humble oyster shells will help reduce the risk of flooding. Are you a fan of innovative solutions? We are too. Help ensure these types of projects are funded by reaching out to your elected officials. https://nature.ly/40O9JyI
