Excited to share a new front-end mini-project: a CSS-Only Sliding Navigation Menu. The best part? It's fully responsive and uses zero JavaScript. I used the CSS :checked pseudo-class to cleverly manage the menu's open/close state. This was a fun challenge in creative problem-solving and building a high-performance, lightweight UI. Every click, scroll, or keypress you make triggers an event — and learning how to handle them properly separates a coder from a developer. 💡 🔹 Part 1: The Fundamentals of Events What is a DOM Event? Think of it like a doorbell — when a user interacts, JavaScript gets notified. 🔔 The 3 Core Components: Target: The element that triggers the event. Event Type: The kind of interaction (e.g., click, input, mouseover). Handler: The function that runs when the event occurs. Modern Approach: Use addEventListener() — it’s flexible, cleaner, and supports multiple listeners. Why Avoid onclick: It mixes HTML and JS, breaking Separation of Concerns. The Event Object: A built-in “information packet” containing details like mouse position, key pressed, and more. 🔹 Part 2: The Three Phases of an Event Event Bubbling: Events rise from the deepest element (child) up to its ancestors (parent → document). Event Capturing: The reverse — events travel from the top (document) down to the target. Visualizing Flow: Understanding how the browser processes events step by step helps debug like a pro. Here's my latest project for the #30Days30JSChallenge: Custom Select Menu! 🚀 This project demonstrates how to build a fully functional, stylish dropdown menu using only HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. It replaces the default browser <select> menu with a custom UI for better styling and control. Key Features Implemented: ✨ Custom styling for the select field and options. 🖱️ Click-to-Toggle: The options list appears only when the select field is clicked. 🔄 Dynamic Text Update: Selecting an option updates the main field text and image. This is the simplest frontend “unlock” I learned today. And honestly… every beginner should know this. 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝟰 𝗣𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗗𝗢𝗠. Because let’s be real: "Most of us write JavaScript… but rarely use the DOM the way it’s meant to be used." 😅 → Even if the logic is right. → Even if the functions work. → Even if the UI looks fine for now. Here are the 4 fundamentals I practiced today: 1. Selecting elements 2. Changing HTML dynamically 3. Updating CSS with JS 4. Attaching event listeners And yes, I even built a tiny task to apply it: A counter with + / – 𝗯𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 and a click event that updates text + styling instantly. Simple? Yes. Useful? Absolutely. Frontend is 80% understanding how the browser reacts to your code. DOM is where that actually happens. (Bookmark this if you're learning JS ♻️) 𝗣.𝗦. What was the first DOM feature you ever mastered? 🚀 Day 54 of #100DaysOfCodingChallenge Today, I created a To-Do List Web Application using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript 📝 This project might look simple at first glance, but it’s one of the best exercises to strengthen core front-end concepts such as: ✨ Dynamic DOM manipulation ✨ Event handling (adding, deleting, checking tasks) ✨ Managing data using Local Storage ✨ Structuring clean UI with Bootstrap 4 ✨ Writing reusable functions to handle user interactions 💡 Features implemented: ✅ Add new tasks 🗑️ Delete tasks ✔️ Mark tasks as completed 💾 Save tasks even after page reload (via Local Storage) This project helped me understand how to connect JavaScript logic with HTML elements in real-time, and gave me a better grip on how state management works inside web applications.
