Yesterday I came across a report by Anand Majdumar that sketches out how robotics may evolve from 2025 all the way to 2045- and it feels very real. Here are a few of the ideas that stood out: • By 2045, robots could account for half of global GDP, transitioning through four overlapping areas: from today’s narrow tele-operated machines → to humanoids learning from human video → to embodied systems with long-term adaptive memory. • One of the critical battlegrounds? Actuator manufacturing. The thesis: robots building robots will create exponential growth — just like AI research — and whichever country dominates the hardware (US? China?) might win big. What does this mean for us? On one hand, this future is amazing: imagine manufacturing plants running near-autonomously, robots upgrading robots, new kinds of work emerging, productivity scaled in ways we barely grasp today. On the other hand, it’s also disruptive: what happens to the millions of jobs tied to manual labour, to people whose skills don’t easily translate? What does our social safety net look like when machines become not just the tools — but the builders of tools? As someone who works with infrastructure, automation and data, this hits close to home. 🤖 CIS 548 Week 4: Robotics, Marketing Strategy, and Responsible AI in Action This week marked a deep dive into two fascinating areas of AI application, robotics and marketing strategy. In robotics, I explored how intelligent machines are reshaping industries, from collaborative robots (cobots) in BMW factories to emotional-support robots like Huggable and Tega that assist children in hospitals and classrooms. These innovations show how far AI and automation have evolved from repetitive automation to systems capable of learning, adapting, and connecting with humans. At the same time, I completed an assignment on AI-driven marketing strategy, using reinforcement learning to understand how organizations can continuously optimize customer engagement and decision-making. I also worked on a SPAM Blocker project, connecting AI design to compliance under the CAN-SPAM Act, a perfect example of ethical AI in action. Our MechDog Does.” I’m excited to showcase our reprogrammed MechDog, an intelligent quadruped robot developed at the Robotics and Intelligent Control Systems (RICS) Lab. This project represents cutting-edge research at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), and computer vision, focusing on how intelligent algorithms can enhance autonomy, adaptability, and perception in robotic systems. Our MechDog integrates AI-enhanced decision-making and ML-driven control mechanisms to perform over 15 custom intelligent behaviors, including autonomous navigation, real-time environment mapping, and adaptive interaction through voice, gesture, and visual recognition. This work marks a significant advancement toward next-generation intelligent robotic systems, bridging human-machine collaboration and showcasing the potential of AI-powered robotics to address real-world challenges in automation, education, and intelligent control research. Key Research Focus: ✅ Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning – integrating deep learning, reinforcement learning, and adaptive neural models to enable decision-making, environment understanding, and self-optimization in robotic systems. ✅ Human-Robot Interaction – enabling natural communication through voice, gesture, and emotion recognition for safer and more intuitive collaboration. ✅ Computer Vision – applying AI-based object detection, mapping, and spatial reasoning for autonomous perception. ✅ Intelligent Control Systems – implementing ML-driven gait optimization, stability control, and real-time feedback for adaptive locomotion. ✅ Bio-Inspired Robotics – developing motion and balance algorithms inspired by animal biomechanics to improve agility and resilience.
