Last week, we welcomed 19 Starbucks College Achievement Plan (SCAP) Fellows to the Seattle Support Center as they wrapped up their 13-week fellowship program. This experience is designed for U.S. partners (employees) who are SCAP juniors, seniors, or graduates, giving them the opportunity to apply their Arizona State University degree, share their coffeehouse expertise, and gain hands-on career development by working alongside a Starbucks support team. We’re incredibly proud of the work they’ve accomplished and the valuable insights they’ll bring back to their home coffeehouses. Congratulations to all our Fellows! “Hi, I have a new idea for improving the Starbucks customer experience. Can you help me connect with the right team to share it?”
Awesome 👍 Good stuff
What Starbucks is doing here is powerful — the data shows that structured mobility programs increase retention up to 45% and expand frontline problem-solving capacity. But it also raises a deeper question about potential. SCAP clearly works… so what would it look like to extend this beyond degree attainment into full career acceleration? Are we unlocking the deepest capabilities of partners, or simply meeting the minimum threshold of development? There’s an opportunity here: pairing education with environments where partners can safely test leadership, innovation, and decision-making could turn SCAP from a benefit into a true internal talent engine.
Congrats, start early, and keep with it...
