... very interesting. SmartStop currently manages or owns 236 properties in the U.S. and Canada. They literally just doubled their operating property count to 460. NSA (National Storage Affiliates Trust) operates 1,067 self storage properties as of June 30, 2025 CubeSmart operates over 1,200 self storage properties across the U.S. This is a big step. Sure there is some nuance to learn more about.

This was a surprising headline to wake up to! SmartStop is the newest REIT in the storage space and Argus is a very staid management group. $21 million is a relatively small transaction compared to self storage facility purchases, so it is a really interesting way for them to get scale on their management platform before they grow their portfolio of owned assets further.
