Riverside Health introduces sensory cart for autism patients

💙 Supporting Families, Saving Lives We’re proud to share that the LRADAC Foundation has received a Community Outreach Grant from Lexington Medical Center (Lexington Health) to support two vital programs - MOMS (Maternal Outreach Management Services) and Uplift Lexington. LRADAC’s MOMS program helps expectant mothers achieve healthy, substance-free births and keep families together. Last year alone, 10 babies were born substance-free and every one of them went home with their families. Since the MOMS program first began, 380 substance-free babies have been born. In addition to supporting the MOMs program, Lexington Health’s Community Outreach Grant also supports a full-time Clinical Counselor who will work alongside hospital teams and Uplift Lexington’s Community Team to connect individuals in crisis to treatment and recovery services, often right from the ER or during paramedic ride-alongs. “Lexington Health continues to prove what true community partnership looks like,” said Kim Koelsch, Vice President of Community Services for LRADAC. “Their dedication fuels programs like MOMS and Uplift Lexington, ensuring that families in need have access to life-changing care and lasting recovery.” #LRADAC #CommunityCare #MOMSProgram #UpliftLexington #SubstanceUseRecovery #LexingtonHealth #MidlandsStrong

In Kansas City, The Children's Place is doing just that: providing trauma-informed care and early intervention for children and families rebuilding after adversity. Cedar City Hospital is expanding its emergency department to better serve the growing community, including dedicated behavioral health treatment rooms. The project adds nine new ER rooms, with three specifically for behavioral health patients, aiming to enhance safety and care. The hospital also plans further investments in medical office space, surgical capacity, and cancer care. - Expansion includes nine new ER treatment rooms, three for behavioral health. - Construction will extend northwest from the ambulance bay with temporary adjustments during the build. - A community health needs assessment will focus on mental health, supported by recent donations to local university services. November marks National Family Caregivers Month, recognizing those who provide critical, unpaid care to loved ones. In Wisconsin, more than 578,000 family caregivers contribute an estimated 538 million hours of unpaid care annually, representing approximately $9.7 billion in economic value to our state. However, this vital workforce faces significant challenges, with 40 to 70% of family caregivers experiencing clinically significant symptoms of depression. Celebrated in November, National Family Caregivers Month (NFCM) recognizes the contributions of over 50 million Americans who provide care and medical assistance to loved ones. The month aims to raise awareness of caregiving issues, educate communities, and increase support for caregivers. Caregiving responsibilities Family caregivers provide assistance to loved ones with disabilities, illnesses, or injuries, including raising children, supporting aging parents, and caring for veterans and service members. Impact on caregivers Caregiving can take a physical, emotional, and financial toll, and many caregivers experience conflicts between responsibilities. Support services Studies show that coordinated support services can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression in caregivers, enabling them to provide care longer. 2024 theme The 2024 theme, “I Care...”, highlights the importance of self-recognition and self-identity for caregivers to access essential support. Nonprofit support The Caregiver Action Network (CAN) leads the national observance and provides free education, peer support, and resources to family caregivers. #IamCaregiver

A new era of service is taking shape in Montana! The Montana Office of Rural Health & Area Health Education Center, housed at Montana State University’s College of Nursing, has been selected by the Governor’s Office of Community Service to lead Community Health Corps Montana — the state’s first health-focused AmeriCorps program with a statewide reach. Members will support nonprofits, hospitals, and tribal partners in expanding access to behavioral health services, chronic disease prevention, and basic needs like food, housing, and transportation. “At its heart, this program is both service and workforce development in action,” said MORH/AHEC Director Kailyn Mock.
