Finally, some progress for drivers out in the heat ! UPS announced plans to retrofit 5,000 of their delivery trucks with air conditioning, starting in the hottest regions across the U.S. This is part of the 2023 labor agreement with the Teamsters, which committed UPS to eventually adding A/C to 28,000 vehicles. The first 2,000 trucks will be ready by June 2026, with all 5,000 done by mid-2027. They’re even testing A/C in the cargo areas something that’s been needed for a long time given how extreme those conditions can get. Long overdue, but a solid step forward for the people who literally keep everything moving. Full article: https://lnkd.in/gdFUXM8b #Logistics #Transportation #UPS #SupplyChain #LastMile

A recent Fleet News article reveals that the UK will need 40,000 new HGV drivers every year over the next five years to avoid repeating the 2021 shortage scenario... With 81% of freight moved by road, the implications for logistics and fleet operations are significant. When driver capacity is strained, vehicle availability, reliability and rapid turnaround become even more critical. At Fiveways, we see how this plays out: 1. Customers increasingly rely on flexible hire solutions to scale fleet capacity during staffing pinch points. 2. Our maintenance-first model ensures vehicles are ready and dependable, reducing unexpected downtime when drivers are scarce. 3. Having a responsive partner who can step in with replacement or backup vehicles helps clients avoid service gaps when driver or vehicle issues arise. As the driver gap widens, having a hire partner you can trust won’t just be nice to have, it could become essential 🚚 #FleetHire #DriverShortage #Logistics #VehicleMaintenance #BusinessContinuity #FivewaysHire

"The trucking industry isn’t going anywhere. It may evolve with technology—but until we reach the world of Star Trek, where freight is beamed from one city to the next, goods will continue to move by truck, train, boat, or plane. In Canada, most domestic freight and trade with the US moves by truck—more specifically, by the hard-working, professional driver behind the wheel." Transportation, fleets, and supply chains are fundamentally driven by people. The key lies in having quality individuals executing their roles effectively. Today's professional driver is not just someone behind the wheel; they represent the customer, embody the brand, and serve as advocates for the industry. A recent article from CCJ — Commercial Carrier Journal highlights the ongoing debate within the industry between "quality" and "quantity." In the current driving environment, the emphasis must be on quality drivers, as they significantly influence various direct and indirect aspects of the business. As companies prepare for growth and recovery in CY2026, it is essential to evaluate whether the goal is merely filling seats or investing in the development of professional quality drivers. What’s the #1 problem in trucking today? Ask any owner-operator — it’s not the miles, it’s the system. A system that pushes small operators to the edge with rising costs, unfair contracts, and razor-thin margins — while the ones behind the wheel carry the nation on their shoulders. Until we start valuing drivers as professionals, not replaceable assets, the industry will keep losing the very people who built it. #Trucking #OwnerOperator #Transportation #Logistics #SupplyChain #WeMoveAmerica
