Operations have begun at the Simandou project in Guinea in West Africa. Simandou is the largest greenfield mining and related infrastructure project in Africa, strengthening our global iron ore portfolio. The project is delivering: 🚂more than 600 kilometres of new multi-use rail lines 🚢 barge and Transhipment Vessel port facilities. Once fully operational, this infrastructure will support up to 120 million tonnes of high grade iron ore exports each year. The first loads of ore have already been taken from the mine to the port on the new rail line. This project is one of partnership, being co-developed by the Government of the Republic of Guinea, SimFer (us and Chinalco) and WCS. This is a transformative development for West Africa’s mining landscape. The Simandou project not only strengthens Guinea’s position as a key global iron ore supplier but also delivers vital transport and logistics infrastructure that will boost regional connectivity and trade. The collaboration between government and industry partners is an excellent example of how large-scale mining projects can drive sustainable economic growth.
