Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU)’s Post

With Better Sheds Ahead, we’re working to make New York’s streets safer, brighter, and more inviting for everyone who walks them. Huge thanks to NYC Department of Buildings and all of our partners who helped bring this forward. You see it on your way to the bodega. You duck under it after leaving your favorite lunch spot. You curse at it when you bump into it. And you thank it when it keeps you dry from the rain. The NYC sidewalk shed is an omnipresent part of life in our city, vital for safety, yet a nuisance in its current form. With more than 400 miles of sheds standing at any given time across our streets, the impact on daily life is truly massive. This morning, we at PAU were proud to release our designs for the future of sidewalk sheds to the community. We look forward to making the streets of New York safer and more beautiful. Thank you to the great leadership and collaboration at the  NYC Department of Buildings, Commissioner Jimmy Oddo,  Gus Sirakis,  Yegal Shamash, Joe Ackroyd , Ya-Ting Liu, our consultant team, and especially our structural partner LERA Consulting Structural Engineers for making this possible. https://lnkd.in/eY-DrXCX photo credit NYC DOB
