OzHarvest Ventures’ Post

Last week at SXSW Sydney we brought together three different perspectives to deep dive into the topic - No One Hungry: Rethinking Food Systems for 10 Billion. With food systems responsible for up to 35% of global emissions, $36 billion in food waste annually in Australia, and 3.4 million households facing food insecurity, it’s clear that maintaining the status quo is no longer an option. Thank you to Matt Moran AM, Philippe Ceulen, Partner of Innovation Architects & Mandalay Venture Partners, who joined our Head of OzHarvest Ventures Louise Tran for a powerful conversation through the lenses of innovation, investment, impact and community. Here are some (not all) of the insights that were captured: 🥕 Regeneration and valuing soil health. The future of food must restore, not deplete. Matt Moran discussed the role that chefs can play to lead this shift and champion better produce, support local farmers, and ultimately influence what people eat and how we place value back into food. He discussed how his own venture such as the Rockley Pub and farm demonstrates regenerative agriculture in action, transforming the ecosystem, the regional economy and reviving opportunities for local employment. 💡 Investment with purpose. Phil shared drivers around government investment, the role RDCs can play in leading policy and impact across the value chain, matching regional investment with community-driven outcomes, and highlighting the role that technology plays in enabling innovation to meet real-world needs. 🤝 Collaboration drives system change. Louise shared the history OzHarvest has played driving advocacy, from changing food donor legislation to championing behaviour change at the retail and consumer level. Critical to a food system transformation is recognising the shared responsibility from producers to policymakers, retailers and consumers who all have an important role to play. Thank you for all those who joined the conversation - keep following our journey for more impact and collaboration stories across the food system! #FoodInnovation #CircularEconomy #ImpactInvestment #AgTech #FoodSystems #OzHarvestVentures #RegenerativeAg 📷 New Heights Media - Australia Joyce Ong
