🌍 Big news from #COP30: The Food Waste Breakthrough has just launched. The Breakthrough is a global push to halve food waste by 2030, which would cut up to 7% of methane emissions - tackling hunger and climate change together. Every year, 1 billion tonnes of food are wasted, causing up to 10% of global emissions (5x the global aviation sector). Locally, reducing food waste means more than just environmental outcomes - it’s a circular economy win, a productivity boost, and helps reduce the cost-of-living for households. Australia has committed to halving food waste by 2030, but we're not on track. This Breakthrough should give the government momentum - to sign on, commit to action, as well as embed food waste reduction in our National Food Security Strategy. 👉 Minister Murray Watt and Minster Chris Bowen, this is a crucial moment. OzHarvest calls on the Australian Government to support and sign on to the Food Waste Breakthrough, and keep ourselves accountable to our 2030 target, for people and planet.
