What is AI doing to creativity? It's starting to worry me. I read an article in Campaign today that said that “advertisers will only need to provide a product image or URL and a budget—Meta’s AI will then create complete ad campaigns, including visuals, copy, targeting, and platform selection." This feels like another nail in the coffin for creative. It’s wild how creative has become the afterthought of media. Brands spend months building audiences, refining propositions, optimising funnels and are now being expected to hand a single product image to an AI and say, “go on then, make it work.” The platforms are treating generative AI as a freebie. A little add-on to the media product. A bolt-on. But marketing was never an engineering puzzle. It’s a human problem with many solutions requiring empathy, understanding and curiosity.
