We’re introducing ChatGPT for Teachers — a secure ChatGPT workspace built to support the everyday work of educators so they can focus on what matters most. Free for verified U.S. K–12 educators through June 2027. With ChatGPT for Teachers, educators can securely work with classroom materials and student information, and collaborate with colleagues. School and district leaders can bring their teams into one account with the same education-grade privacy, security, and compliance programs that protect student data and support FERPA requirements. Teachers are already some of the earliest and most engaged adopters of AI: three in five use an AI tool today, and those who use it weekly report saving hours each week. That time goes right back to students, planning, and the work that makes classrooms come alive. We’re working with leading districts representing nearly 150,000 educators, whose feedback will guide improvements and strengthen our support for schools. This is a step toward making AI a helpful, trusted partner in classrooms — guided by the principle that AI works best when teachers lead. https://lnkd.in/gHcy5QnW

But when students use it, it’s an academic integrity violation 🤔

When you say "Secure" can you expand on that. Will OpenAI still be using anything that is being posted in "ChatGPT for Teachers" to train their LLM?

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Teachers, a free, secure workspace that helps U.S. K–12 educators save time, create classroom materials, and collaborate more easily, all available at no cost until June 2027.

Great work! Are there any specific plans for Europe/Germany, regarding that topic?👍

Love this move for teachers giving them space to actually focus on their students instead of fighting admin tasks is exactly what AI should be doing. One thing I hope the next wave tackles is support for nonlinear minds.. A lot of students don’t struggle with learning, they struggle with translating the way their brain works into the linear systems classrooms are built on. AI can map that gap. For neurodivergent or high-capacity kids, the right assistant isn’t a shortcut it’s scaffolding. It turns ‘overload’ into something usable. Teachers with AI support + students with AI translation tools? That’s when classrooms really change.

Capistrano Unified is so fortunate to be part of the first cohort! Thank you Sam Canning-Kaplan and all of OpenAI for making this possible for K12 school districts!

Putting AI directly into a FERPA-grade workspace for teachers is the right direction: meet them where the work and risk actually live, not in a side toy. The next unlock is receipts, not just stories: hours truly given back, concrete examples of safer workflows, and guardrails districts can audit and adapt. Classrooms may quietly become the R&D lab for how human-led, AI-assisted work should look in every other industry.

Exciting to see AI developments that will give teachers more time to teach and engage with students. Hopefully we will see this come to the UK soon.
