The Fallacy of Person‐Centred Care: Deconstructing the Discourse to Reimagine Practice Person-centred care is widely hailed as the moral and professional foundation of modern healthcare, but how often do we stop to ask what it really means in practice? Rather than genuinely empowering patients, person-centred care can sometimes serve professional and organisational interests, functioning more as rhetoric than reality. In our latest paper, we question whether the concept was ever truly ‘alive.’ Drawing on Nietzsche, we introduce the Über-professional, a practitioner guided by authenticity, critical self-awareness, and moral courage, willing to challenge practices that compromise care. It is great to see Clinical Services Journal showcasing how Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust has achieved significant time savings across its wards by introducing automated vital signs integration into its Sunrise Electronic Patient Record (EPR), provided by Altera Digital Health. The trust now estimates a saving of 2.5 minutes per observation, equating to approximately 50% time saving for clinicians to record observations, freeing up hundreds of hours each year for direct patient care. 🔗 Read more below: https://lnkd.in/eQdzr8bJ

This piece by Caroline Beardall highlights really well that staff engagement is inseparable from patient safety. At the SHBN, we see this link every day - when healthcare workers feel safe, supported, and listened to, safety for patients improves too. Protecting staff from occupational risks, ensuring psychological safety, and fostering open cultures are all essential to building resilient, high-performing healthcare systems. Engagement isn’t a “nice to have” - it’s a clinical safety priority.

For a HTN Now discussion on building safer care and embedding clinical safety into digital pathways, we were joined by: ➤ Corrina H., associate CNIO at Health Systems Support Ltd ➤ Peter Hansell, CEO and co-founder at Isla Health ➤ Victoria Mustafa, regional quality, safety and digital lead for London at NHS England ➤ Ruth North, clinical safety officer at Partnership NHS Trust They each offered their insights on how digital pathways can be designed with safety at their core and explored practical strategies, tools and best practices for embedding clinical safety into digital care models to improve outcomes and build trust.
