A big congratulations to our team at Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside for performing its first Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) procedure, a huge milestone for our hospital and community! 🎉 Shout-out to Dr. Imdad Ahmed, Medical Director of the Mercyhealth Arrhythmia Center, along with Emily Cox, system PFO coordinator, and Jenna Ingbretson, system PFO nurse, for leading the way! Dr. Ahmed shares his appreciation for Dr. Vibhav Bansal from interventional neurology and our incredible cath lab team for their collaboration. For patients who have experienced a stroke related to a PFO, this minimally invasive procedure can be life-changing. It helps reduce the risk of future strokes, typically takes only about 30 minutes, and most patients are able to head home the same day. Systemwide, our Mercyhealth Arrhythmia Center has performed many PFO closures, and bringing this procedure to our Riverside campus strengthens our ability to provide coordinated, comprehensive stroke care close to home. Congrats again to everyone involved in making this possible!
