Getting fired doesn’t end your story — it can start a new one. Former editors-in-chief Laura Brown and Kristina O’Neill know that firsthand. When their careers took an unexpected turn, they decided to stop whispering about the F-word — fired — and start talking about it. In their new book, All the Cool Girls Get Fired, they explore how losing a job can help you rebuild your confidence, identity, and purpose. They recently joined LinkedIn Career Expert Catherine Fisher to talk about what really happens after the headlines fade — and how to turn a setback into a reset. Interesting topic & discussion!
This conversation matters. We need to normalize career setbacks as part of growth, not failure.
True resilience isn’t about never falling it’s about learning to build again, wiser and lighter. Every ending writes the courage for a new beginning.
This is a powerful reframing of a common career setback. Focusing on rebuilding confidence and purpose after being fired is so crucial. Great talk!
This is very interesting. But right now Canada is struggling with unemployment more than growth or anything
What we overlook after moments like this is, we loose our creative spark. We should shift our minds from just working or showing up to survive, we should optimize for ownership by building structures and systems that runs the ecosystem. Cause that's what moves the money needle. Shout to the anchor and guest for picking a great topic to deliberate on.
Yeah, especially when there are no reasonable openings available. True adventure 🤦 And so many people do what they can to keep their job, dare not speak up or oppose injustice, live in fear of not being able to provide for their families or even themselves. By the way, how many layoffs did you announce this year, Microsoft ?
It is not how we fall, but it is about how we get up and move forward. Respectfully
lovely story,
