Christine Anderson CFRE FFIA, ACF’s Director of Fundraising, recently attended New York Climate Week – one of the world’s biggest gatherings of leaders, communities and movements driving action for climate and nature. Some of the key takeaways for Christine included: - Putting people and communities at the centre of climate solutions - Scaling up nature-based solutions - Mobilising finance and decentralising energy, particularly to support countries in the global South - Elevating First Nations and Indigenous leadership as central to solving the climate and extinction crises For Australia, this reinforces the importance of amplifying and resourcing First Nations voices and choices in the work to protect our climate, people and nature.

We’re proud to announce the launch of the Climate Justice Academy, an initiative by We4Climate in partnership with the Institute of Politics and Society, and supported by ActionAid and Drabzeen. The Academy aims to build the capacities of young people in the fields of climate justice, sustainable development, and climate action. Through structured and scientific training, participants will learn how to design and implement impactful climate advocacy campaigns. This initiative strengthens youth engagement in shaping environmental and climate policies, while promoting evidence-based thinking, strategic communication, and research-driven action. By connecting academic knowledge with real-world practice, the Climate Justice Academy is emerging as a national platform for developing a new generation of climate leaders equipped to influence, innovate, and lead change for a just and sustainable future. #ClimateJustice #YouthLeadership #Sustainability #ActionAid #Drabzeen #We4Climate #ClimateAction #Jordan https://lnkd.in/e_gvG4Jj

What is it that really stands out for participatory grant making processes? For the Water Justice Find jointly funded by Simavi and #Womenwin, where I have the privilege of serving as global advisor, it means working with community-embedded organisations and leaders to get women to come together as a group to seek grants for solutions to their critical access-to-water challenges. There are several gamechangers here: 1. The choice of the solution is based on the articulation of a collective need, not for individual gains. 2. The process is based on foundations of mutual trust, where each women trusts the other to be empathetic to her needs. 3. Mutually agreed goals lead to a much higher level of ownership and agency among these women to see the project through in an efficient and effective manner. 4. Typically, the group takes ownership of the after-installation maintenance as well, contributing to a higher probability of building out a more sustainable asset base. 5. The process offers the opportunity to building community-based platforms that have the potential to bargain harder on other asks too! It was a real opportunity to speak about this in the Vice Versa article attached below. #climateadaptation #waterjustice #participatorygrantmaking #womensleadership #womeninclimate #sustainableadaptation #accesstowater #ruralchange #collectivebargainingforwater #socialimpact #communityledclimateaction Dieneke van der Wijk Simavi Vanita Suneja Utthan Oneworld Colab Pte. 📜NEW BRIEF: Examining 18 case studies spanning local, national, and international initiatives to identify proven mechanisms for the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) (FLRD) 🔥⛈️🌊 to enable community access. 💰 🧑🌾👨🚒👨🔧 🔗Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eKFRkdrJ 🎯The FLRD faces a critical design choice between replicating existing #ClimateFinance patterns where resources pass through multiple intermediaries 🏦 before reaching communities 🧑🌾 or establishing new pathways that center affected populations in decision-making and resource allocation. 💸 📢The evidence is clear, communities already possess the knowledge, organizational structures, and accountability systems needed to manage #LossAndDamage finance effectively. 💰 What they lack is direct access to those resources and the power to decide how they are used. 🧮 🔎For full details on each of the 18 case studies the appendix here: https://lnkd.in/egQs48nj 👏The brief has been prepared by the ACEObservatory, Columbia Climate School and The Loss and Damage Collaboration. 🥳It was led by Isatis Cintrón Rodríguez of the Columbia Climate School and ACEObservatory, Eileen Mairena Cunningham of CADP, Nivedita Joshi and Amina Drop of the Columbia Climate School Loss and Damage Research and Action Team, and Liane Schalatek of Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, Washington DC.
