Coinbase just acquired echo.xyz a private onchain investment platform for $ 375M. For too long IDOs platforms where the only way for web3 projects to raise retail capital, but at a cost: horrible terms, terrible liquidity formation, not to mention the 'permissionless' idea opened the floodgate to terrible/scammy projects, leaving retail investors in shamble soon after TGE. For those who have been following capital formation there had been a handful projects truly building something different in the space over the past 2 years: Echo, Legion and Buidlpad. The acquisition marks a transition, but wondering if Echo will manage to stay true to their vision. According to Jordan Fish, aka Cobie, founder of Echo, 'for now' Echo will remain independent. Coinbase ends $2B BVNK acquisition, rethinks stablecoin strategy #Coinbase has abandoned its planned $2 billion acquisition of London-based #stablecoin infrastructure firm #BVNK, halting what was set to be one of the largest takeovers in the crypto payments sector. The deal, expected to close between late 2025 and early 2026, would have expanded Coinbase’s presence in cross-border stablecoin payments and treasury services. Negotiations had reached late stages, with Coinbase Ventures already an investor in BVNK, and Mastercard reportedly monitoring the startup’s progress. Founded in 2021, BVNK has grown rapidly, processing over $20 billion in annualised transactions and backed by major investors including Visa Ventures and Citi Ventures. Sources indicate the collapse stemmed from due diligence issues, market volatility, and shifting internal priorities amid a tightening regulatory climate. While Coinbase’s stablecoin-related revenues remain on the rise, the company may now pursue smaller acquisitions or internal development to strengthen its payments infrastructure.
