It seems Millennials and Gen Z aren’t just job hopping: they’re manager dodging. Turns out, "Because that’s how we’ve always done it" isn’t quite the motivational speech it used to be. There’s a leadership divide happening wide enough to fit a parade of exit interviews (or at least a few TikTok rants). Fresh perspectives, open communication, values-driven work: these aren’t buzzwords to them, they’re baseline. So, what helps traditional managers stop playing hide-and-seek with their best talent? Less paper, more listening. Fewer rules, more curiosity. How are you approaching the generational gap in your leadership style these days?

I didn’t realise how much my years working in sport would prepare me for navigating cross-cultural leadership environments. The moment it clicked for me was during a tense meeting in a country where I barely spoke the language. The objectives were clear, but the communication style, the expectations, even the energy in the room were completely different from what I was used to. Suddenly, I found myself relying on the same habits I had learned in the sports industry: observing dynamics before stepping in, adjusting communication quickly, anticipating needs, and staying focused under pressure. I realised that agility, resilience, and cultural intelligence weren’t just professional competencies - they were behaviours shaped by years in a fast-paced, rather unpredictable environment in addition to further education. Since then, I’ve become more aware of how experiences outside traditional business roles quietly shape the way we show up. Working in sport taught me to handle intensity, manage diverse personalities, and think strategically under tight timelines - skills that translate far beyond the industry. When it comes to Gen Z at work, it’s easy to fall back on stereotypes. But beneath the buzzwords lies a generation that’s not just digital-first. They’re driven by purpose, fluid in thought, and fearless in action. In her latest piece, Anisha Iyer, CEO of OMD India, explores why working with Gen Z isn’t about managing by age, but leading with mindset — and how OMD India’s culture creates the perfect playground for this generation to shine bright. Want some career advice from a PR director at Netflix? I kicked off my Friday morning with a mentorship session with Lindsey Scully who started her career in government, went on to lead Public Affairs and Comms at Airbnb, and now heads up PR for Netflix Canada. If you didn’t attend, don’t worry...I pulled together a few takeaways so you can feel like you were in today’s session (...but if you’re a Monday Girl member, I highly recommend joining one of these). 🎬 Stay open to what’s next. Do not tie yourself to a title, a company, or even an industry. When Lindsay started her career, Airbnb and Netflix didn’t even exist... so imagine if she had boxed herself in? Be open-minded. Set one or two stretch goals every year. Keep expanding your skill set. And if something makes you super excited and a little nervous, lean in. That’s usually a sign it’s worth doing. 🧠 Comms is a high-stakes, high-reward job. It’s exciting, but also unpredictable. Things will go sideways sometimes... that’s part of it. The key is knowing what’s within your control and staying calm under pressure. 🗞️ Know your media diet. This one’s huge if you’re in or want to break into comms. Read the news every day. Know your audience and your favourite reporters. Keep pitches tight (no longer than two paragraphs). And remember... a great story doesn’t always have to be in the biggest outlet. Local wins matter too. 📊 Redefine success. Not everything in PR is measurable, and that’s okay. The real win is when your message genuinely shapes the conversation. 💡 Always be learning. Volunteer. Join associations. Stay curious. Keep connecting with people who make you think differently. That’s how you grow. Yesterday I shared some of my key takeaways from being part of Monday Girl, and honestly, these mentorship sessions are one of my favourite parts. Smaller, more intimate groups led by women who’ve built such incredible careers. As someone who works with comms teams in my day-to-day, it was so valuable hearing from someone who’s navigated the role across different industries and big names, giving me a deeper understanding of the ins and outs, challenges, and nuances that come with it. #mondaygirl #PR #Communications #CareerGrowth #Netflix #Airbnb

💡 “Yaar, sab theek hai... par woh baat nahi.” We’ve all heard this line — in interviews, project evaluations, or leadership discussions. Everything seems fine: the candidate has the skills, the numbers check out, the presentation was clear... And yet, someone says, “Yaar sab theek hai — par woh baat nahi.” That undefined feeling often decides more careers, opportunities, and investments than we realize. Sometimes it’s called gut instinct. Other times, it’s fit, vibe, or culture alignment. But how often is it actually bias in disguise? How often do we miss out on potential simply because it didn’t “feel” familiar? In our corporate sector, this phrase silently shapes decisions — from hiring to promotions to partnerships. It sounds harmless, even casual, but it can keep workplaces from becoming truly diverse, inclusive, and forward-thinking. Maybe it’s time we define what that “baat” really means — and whether it’s helping us grow, or quietly holding us back. #WorkplaceCulture #InclusionInHiring #CorporateMindset #BiasAndPerception #LeadershipReflections #ProfessionalGrowth #PakistanWorkCulture #MindsetShift #DecisionMaking

So… can we officially add “screen time expert” to our resumes yet? 👀 We’ve been saying it for a while now: social media isn’t just marketing anymore. It’s leadership. What used to be an intern’s side task is now a C-suite essential. Introducing the Chief Social Media Officer, the strategic seat at the table we believe every brand needs. 🌟 In our latest blog, we dive into how social has evolved from “just post something” to one of the most influential drivers of growth, community, and brand identity. It’s not a trend; it’s the next era of executive leadership. And honestly, it’s about time. If you caught Megan’s TEDxWestVancouver talk (@tedxwestvancouver) last month, you already know this idea is core to how we think about the future of social. She shared what it really means to lead with originality in an industry built on trends, and it was pure magic. We’d love to hear your take → Should every business have a social media leader at the executive level? I spoke to some leaders including of Primark and Accenture recently and here’s what I was advised being a recent Comms & PR graduate: 👉 _soft skills_, which you gather from retail experience will always shine in you as it shapes you to learn your clients’ needs and behaviour. 👉 _networking_ helps you protect your personal brand and reliability especially when you need your connections; no matter to who, you should always seem approachable. 👉 _being ahead with the trends_ will help you get hired even though experience has credibility; leaders look for people who think along the lines of bringing fresh ideas to support their company. 👉 _both fresh graduates or years’ worth experienced employees_ contribute value to their respective fields. 👉_always sharpen your knowledge and skills through educating yourself_ with courses and network; you never know what kind of learning you might get which will help you one day. #skills #leaders #MNCs #Communications
