Health systems everywhere are under pressure – from rising demand for services and workforce shortages to persistent inequalities in access to care. Patient navigation programmes offer a powerful solution by helping people move through the health system, which improves disease outcomes and can even reduce healthcare costs. Patient navigators guide people from suspicion to diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, supporting their physical, practical and emotional needs. Evidence shows navigation programmes can reduce hospital readmissions and improve survival. Yet implementation remains uneven. In our latest blog, Senior Researcher Jessica Hooper and Associate Director of Research and Policy Laura Habashi explore why formal patient navigation programmes are necessary for the long-term sustainability, cost-effectiveness and efficiency of health systems. To realise the full potential of patient navigation, we need: • core training standards • sustainable funding and governance • comprehensive evidence and consensus-driven guidance. 📖 Read the full blog: https://lnkd.in/e4yvdxg6 #HealthPolicy #PatientNavigation #PersonCentredCare #HPP
