Nursing Policies Evaluation: What Works and What Doesn’t? Across many health systems, nursing policies are designed with good intentions to regulate practice, improve safety, and enhance patient outcomes. But intent doesn’t always translate to impact. Recent policy evaluations by bodies like the ICN-International Council of Nurses and World Health Organization (WHO) reveal gaps between policy design and its effectiveness particularly in workforce governance, nurses retention, and leadership inclusion. What works: ✅Evidence-Based Foundation ✅ Optimization of Scope of Practice ✅ Support for professional development What doesn’t: ❌ Top-down regulations ❌ Policies that focus only on compliance, not innovation ❌ Non-Adaptive Frameworks Building effective nursing systems requires evidence-informed, inclusive policies not just more of them. 📩 Book a consultation: https://lnkd.in/eVN5ZpED #NursingPolicy #GlobalHealth #HealthSystems #NursingLeadership #ICN #WHO #HealthConsulting #NursingSpectrum #policyadvisory

Nursing Assessment & Public Health Insights. Last week, I deepened my understanding of nursing assessment, especially the importance of distinguishing between objective, subjective, and secondary data when evaluating a patient’s condition. Going through the W03 Nursing Assessment application reminded me how critical accurate assessment is, not just for diagnosis but for delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care. My key takeaways from this week: Objective data provides measurable facts such as vital signs and physical observations. Subjective data helps uncover the patient’s personal experience, including what they feel, report, or describe. Secondary data adds another layer of context through information provided by family members or caregivers. Understanding these components strengthens my ability to apply the first step of the nursing process, which is Assessment. It truly lays the foundation for all other interventions. As I continue my studies in public health and nursing, I am excited to keep building skills that will help me contribute meaningfully to patient care and community wellbeing. #NursingAssessment #PublicHealth #HealthcareLearning #NursingStudent #ContinuousGrowth #VitalSigns #NursingProcess #ProfessionalDevelopment

Ensuring our clients receive the best possible care is a never-ending commitment. One of the many ways our nursing staff is continuing the rise to the challenge of meeting our clients’ needs is through ongoing upgrading and training. With this in mind, our Professional Practice Team launched VHA’s inaugural Nursing Clinical Excellence Workshop series focused on hands-on learning experiences designed to build confidence and strengthen clinical skills. To meet the needs of our dispersed workforce these workshops are designed for delivery at various locations and on different dates making it as easy as possible for our staff to attend. This year’s sessions focused on the Child and Nursing Team, the Kew Beach Unit Team, and our Care Team Supervisors and Clinical Leads, each playing a vital role in the success of this initiative. As the end to our first round of training approaches, we’re so proud of the achievements of our nurses and we’re already excited to expand this initiative to more nursing teams next year. #NursingExcellence #ProfessionalPractice #DeliveredWithHeart #VHAHomeHealthCare

🕯️ End-of-life care is one of the most profound aspects of nursing—requiring compassion, sensitivity, and a holistic approach that honours the individual’s wishes and dignity in their final days. Peter Ellis outlines the principles of providing person-centred, holistic care to dying patients, as well as emotional and practical support for families and loved ones. ⚖️ Impact: High-quality end-of-life care reduces distress, preserves dignity, and provides comfort for patients and families, while supporting nurses’ professional confidence in emotionally demanding situations. 💐 Approach: Care involves physical, psychological, social, and spiritual support—addressing pain, breathlessness, hydration, and anxiety while ensuring comfort and peace. 💡 Best practice: Clear communication, respecting treatment preferences, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams ensure care aligns with patient values and clinical needs. 👩⚕️ Nursing role: Nurses play a central role in coordinating care, supporting families, and advocating for patients’ wishes, while also maintaining their own emotional wellbeing. 📘 Read the full article for insights into delivering compassionate, holistic end-of-life care. It is incredibly refreshing to see more and more organizations finding the value in #clinicalladders. In our organization, leaders empower their teams, but to participate in shaping our work environments, patient outcomes and develop skillsets that translate #beyondthebedside. Implementations like these—which reward our professional #nurses for their work and achievements regarding certification, practice initiatives, #interprofessionalsharedgovernance, #innovations, research and volunteering— are mutually rewarding for our nurses and our organization.
At AdventHealth caring for the whole person - body, mind and spirit - begins with our own team. That’s why in 2022 we did something bold. We launched a companywide clinical ladder, the Professional Excellence Program, to recognize our nurses for the skill, ability and compassion they bring to the bedside. The results have been powerful: more than 57% of eligible nurses enrolled and turnover among participants dropped to just 4.2% - compared to 14.1% overall. When nurses feel supported and whole, they choose to stay. That stability is one of the best ways we can ensure patients experience consistent, exceptional care. AdventHealth strives to be a place where nurses thrive, grow and are able to provide their best care. Fielding an experienced, supported team is one of the most important things we can do to help our patients feel whole. I’m proud to share that our program and outcomes were recently published in Nurse Leader, the professional journal of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL). https://lnkd.in/ePcHgdtt
