The U.S. DOT's FMCSA is intensifying its challenge against California for issuing CDLs to individuals not domiciled in the state, a practice that violates federal regulations. California maintains its right to do so, citing state sovereignty and even passing legislation to protect this. FMCSA has escalated, proposing a rule that could lead to withholding highway funds from non-compliant states, emphasizing the critical need for national safety standards and consistent driver licensing across the industry. This ongoing dispute highlights significant compliance and operational concerns for the trucking sector. https://lnkd.in/dyhvnpFP #CDLCompliance #TruckingRegulations #FMCSA #DriverSafety #FreightNews #blackwolflogistics

Federal Audit Triggers 17,000 CDL Revocations in California The U.S. Department of Transportation and FMCSA are revoking about 17,000 non-domiciled CDLs issued by California’s DMV after a federal audit uncovered major compliance failures. Investigators found licenses granted to drivers whose legal stay in the U.S. had expired or who weren’t eligible under federal law. California must now notify affected drivers and correct its licensing process—or risk losing up to $160 million in federal highway funds. The FMCSA has also flagged other states for similar issues, signaling broader enforcement ahead. Carriers and drivers are urged to verify credentials as the state reviews every non-domiciled CDL on record. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gNTBbv5i ⭐ Please leave us a review on Google: https://shorturl.at/UCzpU #TruckDriverNews #FMCSA #DOT #CDLCompliance #TruckingIndustry #TruckDrivers #CDLAudit #CaliforniaTrucking #SafetyStandards #DriverRegulations

The DOT’s interim rule on non-domiciled CDLs has triggered a surge of driver comments, with sharply divided views on safety, eligibility and fairness. For carriers and fleet managers, this signals a coming wave of compliance challenge: vetting, driver eligibility files, and retention risks are all under pressure. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gW7ytkWf

I-40 “Operation Guardian” in Oklahoma: What fleets should know In a 15-hour enforcement sweep near the OK/AR line, OHP and ICE made 500+ contacts, performed ~209 CMV inspections, and detained 73 people for immigration violations — 34 were CMV drivers. Why this matters for carriers & drivers Be stop-ready: Keep CDL, med card, registration, insurance, permits, and ELD/logs organized and within reach. Coach the stop: Windows down, interior lights on at night, hands visible, clear communication. Language matters: FMCSA requires drivers to read/speak English sufficiently to converse with officials (49 CFR 391.11(b)(2)). Weekly cab book check: Replace worn docs, confirm ELD credentials/device guides are in the truck. My take: Regardless of where you land on the politics, this is a real operational risk area on a major freight lane. Prep your teams so stops are calm, quick, and compliant. If you were on I-40 this week, what did you see? Story from CDLLife #TruckingNews #Transportation #Trucking #DOTcompliance #DriverTraining #Logistics #SupplyChain #Freight

OOIDA is urging Congress to take “aggressive action” to keep unsafe and under-trained drivers off U.S. highways. In a letter to lawmakers, OOIDA’s President and Chief Executive Officer backed H.R. 5688, the Non-Domiciled Commercial Driver’s License Integrity Act, and opposed H.R. 5563, the DRIVE-Safe Act, warning that weak standards fuel high turnover and safety risks. OOIDA’s recommendations include mandatory behind-the-wheel training, stronger Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration oversight of training providers, tighter new entrant audits, the removal of unsafe CDL waivers, and better regulation of third-party CDL testing to reduce fraud and improve consistency. Did you know that most DOT violations don’t happen because carriers are unsafe — they happen because paperwork isn’t organized? A few simple compliance habits can save fleets from fines, audits, and CSA score increases: ✅ Keep driver files updated ✅ Maintain pre-trip & post-trip inspections ✅ Track IFTA miles & fuel receipts ✅ Check ELD malfunction reports ✅ Verify medical cards & CDL renewals When these small tasks are done consistently, carriers avoid roadside issues, delays, and unexpected penalties. Compliance is not just about rules — it’s about protecting drivers, equipment, and business reputation. Safety starts with organization. 📁🚛 #DOT #FMCSA #TruckingIndustry #SafetyCompliance #SafetyFirst #FleetManagement #CSA #Transportation
