Hi, I'm Laura Moore, cofounder of the International Gay Figure Skating Union and Co chair of the scholarship committee. I moved back to New York City in 1989. Beginning skating lessons was part of my coming out process. In the 1991 Pride parade I saw a small group of people within New York in 94 something promoting gay games. Four, I was so excited about skating with another woman. That week I had coffee with Arthur Lewis, a gay man I had met at the ice rink. We formed the International Gay Figure Skating Union and produced Pride Skate in 1992. It was the world's first Queer I show and what convinced the Gay Games organizers to add our sport. We held the first figure skating competition in Gay Games history in New York in 1994 at Gay Games 4. The crowd went nuts over same gender partner. I won gold medals in pairs and ice dance a silver in my individual event and found myself in a bit of a media frenzy. Call Ostenberg, A fellow Gay Games volunteer, called to see if I would help read essays from scholarship applications to Gay Games 7 Chicago 2006 Jeffrey Pike. Paul and I met to review the applications. Reading the essays, we were so moved and recognized that the work we were doing was critical to advancing our mission and expanding queer visibility worldwide. During each games, we hold orientation sessions and workshops that help the scholarship recipients spread the Gay Games mission when they return home. Some may only be able to start a tiny little club. Others have gone on to create organizations that became voting members of the Federation of Gay Games. Queer visibility is more important than ever. With your support, we can continue to create. Opportunities for members of our global community. Please follow the link in the comments of the We hope to see many Valencia.
