Earlier this week, NT Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro suggested that trans women should be banned being placed in women’s prisons, regardless of the circumstances. Along with community groups and human rights advocates, NT Commissioner Jeswynn Yogaratnam has raised serious concerns that making blanket rules that could see Sistergirls placed in men’s prison could expose the government to “legal liability”. He described Ms Finocchiaro’s approach as “alarmist (and) unsupported by evidence from the NT” and said it risked “inflaming prejudice and hostility toward trans Territorians". All trans people deserve dignity, safety and respect. We stand in solidarity with Sistergirls and trans women in the NT. #Transrightsarehumanrights #trans #equality
The CLP is pointlessly trying to stir up a culture war. They try to play on fears but the simple truth of the matter is there was been no issues with transgender prisoners being in the the sectors that they identify with at Darwin Correctional Centre. This serves no one in the Territory.

1moThank you. The campaign led and fueled by News Limited is incessant. And damaging.
