Equality Australia’s Post

Queensland's ban on puberty blockers and hormone therapy is being challenged by the mother of a trans teenager. Brisbane’s Supreme Court yesterday heard the state government acted unlawfully and failed to follow proper procedures when it implemented the ban earlier this year. The court was also told that care had been paused in the absence of any clinical evidence, consideration for the number of young people affected or the potentially devastating psychological affects it could have on them. ‘Consultation' amounted to a 22-minute Teams call, which was held at the same time the ban was announced publicly, the court was told. The legality of the puberty block ban will now be determined by Justice Peter Callaghan as soon as next week. All young people, including trans kids, deserve access to the health care they need - without interference from politicians. #transrights #trans #LGBTIQ+ #Equality #queensland

This post is misleading. This is not breaking news, this was the case put forward in this court case. Your headline implies that this is the decision, not the argument put forward by the mother's legal team. I mention this because, as someone who cares passionately about ensuring young people have access to affirming care, seeing this got me really excited thinking they'd won their case. This was quickly followed by a crash because, no, the case is ongoing. Followed by the anxiety of what is to come in this case and the fear of a negative outcome for this family and all young trans people in Qld. That level of emotional up and down that quickly is not fun when you're dealing with this stuff on the daily and nervous system is already on edge around this topic.
