AI is changing the workplace, but it can’t replace the human skills that are most in demand. According to employers, the “power skills” of the future are: ✳️ Critical thinking & problem-solving ✳️ Communication ✳️ Empathy & judgment ✳️ Leadership across differences And those are the very skills older workers bring in abundance. As companies adopt AI, the need for experienced talent isn’t shrinking — it’s growing. As #AgeismAwarenessDay approaches (Thursday, October 9), it’s time to #FlipTheScript on our understanding of the advantage that comes with age and experience. What “power skills” have you seen older colleagues bring to your team? #AgeAdvantage #TalkAboutAgeism #ExperienceMatters #TheEncoreNetwork Maggie Riad Kindred Murillo Helen Hirsh Spence Victor Ortiz Andy Oden, APR Barb Richardson Rimas Jasin Amy Avergun Cheryl Gelzer Alexis Paula Getz Carolynne Mahood Laurie Petersen Janine Vanderburg Mona Mourshed Ramona Schindelheim Richard Eisenberg Maureen Wiley Clough Kim Anderson, NDCCDE, CDR Mary J Cronin Joyce Cohen Jim Westcott

There’s something almost poetic about living in an age of #AI. Algorithms spot patterns in our emails, predict our next #HR report, and sometimes remind us we need a coffee break (seriously, my inbox gets it). But here’s the twist: in a world where machines can “think,” being #human matters more than ever. AI may be able to scan resumes faster than I can swipe through weekend memes, but it still can’t read the glint in a candidate’s eye—or notice the team-wide coffee panic before a Monday meeting. At Miles Education, we’re embracing tech but doubling down on empathy. The best workflows aren’t just frictionless; they’re kind. The greatest recognition isn’t just data-driven; it’s heartfelt. Whether you’re leading a team or surviving a system upgrade (with snacks), it’s our quirks and questions that drive real change. I’ll take the predictive analytics and chatbot reminders—but I’ll never outsource gut instincts, gratitude, or those infamous HR “aha!” moments. In the age of AI, humanity is the X-factor. Here’s to building workplaces that celebrate heart, humor, and human messiness—because the algorithm never laughed at an inside joke, missed a birthday, or had a truly bad hair day like I am having today! #Mileseducation #Miles2go #HumanAtWork #AIandHumanity #Leadership #Empathy #HRInsights #TechWithHeart #Innovation #WorkplaceCulture #FutureOfWork #QuirkyLeadership Varun Jain, CPA, CMA Rohini Sripada Ravi Thiruvengalam Uttam Pai Umesh, CPA Sreeyash Mohan Nikita Padhi Anish Antony Pragya Singh Baghel Sweta Mohanty

As AI fears continue, executives say a human in the loop in not enough—workers need to prioritize one skill “I don’t think that we are thoughtfully enough educating people about how to be good at judgment,” "That also means developing complementary skills: the ability to delegate, maintain quality control, and approach problems with end-to-end, design-thinking mindsets." At Transforming Life we teach the foundational elements of these basic skills #criticalthinking #problemmanagement #ownership #perseverance #digitalliteracy #resilence in our Success4Life program. https://lnkd.in/ePCMQiUj

Ran across this Forbes article that helps explain the unique position of Gen Z workers in today’s job market. For young professionals, ambition and anxiety can be two sides of the same coin. According to this year’s Work Relationship Index, an overwhelming 88% of Gen Z employees have used AI in the workplace – the highest of any generation. However, Forbes found that 46% worry that AI could threaten their jobs, a sharp rise from last year. For leaders, this should be both a signal and a responsibility. As organizations, we need to rethink not just what work we ask of people, but how we support them – through clarity, purpose, autonomy and confidence. By democratizing AI and setting clear usage guidelines, business leaders can both unlock productivity and empower the next generation of workers with the skills and tools to succeed. https://lnkd.in/gDQCUn4T

Just finished listening to the TED Radio Hour episode with Hilke Schellmann on AI in hiring and workplace monitoring. It's definitely worth the listen. (Link in comments) Three points in particular caught my attention: ➡️ Bias doesn't just get replicated, but AMPLIFIED. When algorithms are trained on historical data, they don't just learn our biases; they compound them at scale. Think about résumés getting automatically flagged for including "women's college" or algorithms penalizing career gaps that disproportionately affect caregivers and parents. ➡️ When AI is used in the workspace to track employees' activity (sigh), it's measuring what's easy, NOT what matters. Tracking keystrokes, mouse movements, and email volume doesn't actually capture the essence of valuable work. It just encourages "productivity theater," where people optimize for looking busy instead of driving real outcomes. ➡️ Human signals still cut through the noise. A clean, machine-readable résumé definitely helps get past the initial screen. But, as the conversation highlighted, informal networks that already advantage certain candidates are becoming even more critical now. If you hire or manage teams, here are some key insights: ✅ Measure impact, not motion. It's time to swap vanity metrics for outcomes that actually matter to the business: quality of work, project cycle time, error rates, and user satisfaction. ✅ Keep humans in the loop. Use AI to lift the administrative burden. Don't let it make high-stakes decisions without thorough human review. And if you're on the job search: 👊 Keep your résumé layout simple. Mirror 80–90% of the keywords you see in the job description. Quantify your results whenever possible, apply directly on company sites, and lean on your network. I'm curious what you're seeing out there. Where has AI actually improved your hiring process? And where has it just made things worse? #AI #Hiring #Recruiting #FutureOfWork #AIBias #HRTech #CareerAdvice

🧠💥 Use it, we’re damned. Don’t use it, we’re damned. The question is how we use it. I had a blast presenting my latest research on Thinking with AI to a room full of HR professionals this week. And what a dynamic spectrum it was — from folks who barely touch AI to those who use it daily. But regardless of where we are on that curve, one truth stands: ⚠️ Use AI passively, and we risk cognitive sloth — becoming efficient but irrelevant. 🚫 Don’t use it at all, and we risk being replaced by those who do. So the real opportunity isn’t using AI. It’s thinking with it. In my keynote, I shared 4 principles that help us stay in the driver’s seat 🚗 — to work not for the machine, but with it: 🔹 Prompt to grow, not just to go AI isn’t a vending machine. Use it to challenge your thinking, not just get outputs. 🔹 Own the first and last mile Begin with your intent. End with your judgment. That’s where human value lives. 🔹 Make space for spark Slow down. Reflect. Let intuition and creativity breathe before the next prompt. 🔹 Go beyond critical thinking Expand your thinking muscle—add process, big-picture, intuitive and meta-thinking. Let’s not outsource our intelligence. Let’s extend it. Because when humans lead and machines amplify, we don’t just get faster — we get smarter, bolder, and more impactful. This session is especially meaningful for me because my boss from more than 20 years came to listen in - Mr king song phua, formerly HR director at GlaxoSmithKline. I finally earned his approval...after 20 years ;-) Special thanks to Iris Chong, Shereen and TW TOH for connecting and inviting me to speak. It was very well organised! #LearningAgility #HumanAndMachine #AIatWork #ThinkingWithAI #FlameCentre
